Preface

Exchange 2019, one of the flagship Exchange versions out there has changed the game for how you not only manage your server, but also how email systems and delivery has improved.

Afterslimming down the roles to just 2 in Exchange 2019, it now only consists of Mailbox role, and everything else is now a service, like your Hub Transport, Client Access Service, unified messaging, etc. The Edge role is still available in this version and can be used in your DMZ.

Exchange 2019 has also evolved, and going back to versions you could virtualize your servers, but the way underlying hypervisors handle these servers, it just shows you the effort that is put into a product.

From a security perspective, Microsoft isputting everything into ensuring the security of Exchange 2019. If they find something, then a patch is released to ensure that the specific problem in question is addressed. Many Admins dont feel the need to upgrade as they are on a version that works;however, they still introduce risk into the environment.

Installation of Exchange 2019 is not difficult at all. Once all the prerequisites are done, you can do your installation unattended, using the GUI or script it, like some MVPs have done. Scripting makes everything easier, as everything is covered from start to finish in a single script.

The primary goal of this book is to teach you about Exchange 2019, how to deploy a new server or coexistence with Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2013. This book contains sample scripts, how to create a DAG or a mailbox database, how to perform mailbox moves, etc.

By going throughthe 10 chapters in this book, you will learn the following:

Introduction to Exchange 2019 and understanding how things work, and what has changed from legacy versions to getting your server ready for installation.

Finally, the chapter alsodiscusses installing Exchange 2019 using the unattended method and the GUI method.
