What is Red Pill? And Why Write a Book to Debunk it?
Remember, all Im offering is the truth. Nothing more.
- Morpheus, The Matrix (1999)
R ed Pill is a metaphor taken from the 1999 blockbuster hit movie The Matri x starring Keanu Reeves as Neo. In the movie, Neo unknowingly lives in a computer simulation until he is recruited by freedom fighters who offer Neo either a red or blue pill to swallow. The blue pill will allow him to stay in his comfortable, but fake, reality while the red pill will expose all the lies of his society and set him free.
In context, the lies Red Pill claims to reveal is how men have been conditioned by society to allow themselves to be subjugated by feminism to mens unwitting and ongoing detriment. Red Pill is an evolution of the 1990s-era pickup artist (PUA) and seeks to explain, using data, rational reasoning, psychology, and evolutionary biology, why the tactics of the PUA work. Red Pill is ultimately a philosophy that promises men the secrets of how to avoid being taken advantage of and emotionally hurt by women.
Red Pill gets a lot of hate from people because of the misogyny many feel is a marker of its community. Red Pill advocates insist that the purpose of Red Pill is not to hate women, but instead to allow men to understand women so they can stop being so frustrated by them. They claim the primary purpose of Red Pill is clarityintergender dynamics is confusing and the olde-timey models our great-grandparents used in courtship no longer apply in a world where women are capable of supporting themselves, where birth control is both reliable and readily available, and where a dependence upon social media has made social retards of us all. So many men today are desperately seeking answers and direction.
These men have usually had difficulty in navigating this new terrain and are looking for answers on how to do it better and how to protect themselves. They perceive an increasingly hostile and confusing environment for men. They want to feel like they have a clue as to what they are doing, much like the rest of us. Red Pills offers an answer, and frustrated men flock to it.
I am not unsympathetic, and I intend to approach this topic from the mindset that the above sentiment is truethat Red Pill is about understanding women so that both genders can get what they want. I honestly have no problem with men wanting to get laid moremore power to them. I didn't start out with the intention of writing a refute to Red Pill, but instead started looking into Red Pill claims and trying to verify its theories as simply a way to understand the perspective. I believe I have achieved my original goal of understanding Red Pill men's perspective; it's just not the same conclusions Red Pill men have come to, and I've approached this book with that same attitude. Men deal with a lot of shit that they don't get a lot of support to deal with. A lot of what Red Pill teaches makes sense, at least on the surface. There is no reason to berate men who are trying to make sense of things. Red Pill, as I explain in later chapters, offers a lot of value to men and I have no desire to minimize that value. Ultimately, this book will be dedicated to my two sons. They're six now, but I hope one day they will read it, and I don't want them to think less of me and my approach towards people I disagree with after they do read it.
I have spent a great amount of time interacting with Red Pill men in an effort to understand what they believe, their rationale for believing it, and how they feel about it. Subchapters within this book highlighted in bold are real questions and comments I have received from Red Pill men during my research. I have tried to edit them as little as possible, but many did need paraphrasing or editing when the question was part of a larger conversation whose context didnt fit the place in the book Id chosen to address the question. On the whole, I have found Red Pill men to be quite forthcoming when respectfully approached. Like anyone with strong beliefs, they want to talk about and share their ideas. Their entirely voluntary assistance to someone who they (often) knew was attempting to upend their belief system is genuinely appreciated, and I wanted to have their voices represented in this book.
If there is one universal amongst the men I conversed with, it is that they truly believe that Red Pill is science. They believe Red Pill is about facts, not beliefs. Many of them dont even like Red Pills assertions, but since they believe Red Pills conclusions are built from scientific methods and not the hap-hazard inductive reasoning that the Red Pill foundation actually is, they feel it would be counter-intuitive not to accept the harsh reality as Red Pill describes it. I have encountered a lot of hate and anger from Red Pill men, but also a great deal of pain, fear, and uncertainty. Over time, as a few got to know me and my style a bit more, they became genuinely interested in my work and have been following my progress. Some have even become active participants in the pre-publication process. I have become friends with some of these men. Some of my beta and advanced readersessential members of any book-publishing teamwere Red Pill men. Ive come to respect and admire these individuals, and hope they will be proud of what Ive done with their many contributions. This is an anti-Red Pill book, but it is not a Red Pill is evil book. Red Pill men feel that Red Pill gives them a strength and certainty they lacked before discovering Red Pill, and I want to foster a conversation, not just make accusations.
Do you really think any man who has taken the Red Pill is going to be convinced by you to spit it out?
Nope. That has never been the goal. This book isnt for Red Pill men, although I certainly welcome them. This book if for the men who took the Red Pill and then started having questions that Red Pill couldnt answer. This book is for the women whose boyfriends and husbands and brothers and sons have recently discovered Red Pill, and the women are now searching for answers to what they see as nonsensical facts and misogynistic conclusions. This book is for anyone who has been exposed to Red Pill and knew it didnt add up, but couldnt quite explain why they felt that way.
That feeling of wrongness is a lack of vocabulary. I believe I can help with that.
If you agree that the tactics Red Pill teaches work, and you dont have a problem with men using the tactics, then why write a book debunking Red Pill?
Because foundations matter. My problem with Red Pill is that I believe the underlying model, or ideology, of Red Pill to be patently false and nonsensical. Ultimately, Red Pill is a reasoning-based belief system, not an evidence-based belief system, and frankly, most Red Pill men and women simply dont know how to Science or how to verify the claims they keep spreading around. Red Pill believes it uses logic and deductive reasoning, but in reality it uses sloppy inductive reasoning and cherry-picked evidence. Just because something seems to make sense does not mean its true. Red Pills intent to better understand womens sexual motivations is a perfectly valid and righteous goal, but a poor base understanding of womens nature leads to incorrect conclusions of otherwise good data and has the very real potential of causing further damage and unhappiness to men and womens lives.
