Am I at high-risk for death, from Coronavirus?
Picture 18

A s of March 9, 2020 , the only large epidemiologic research study available is the

one from Chinese researchers, covering the Wuhan, China outbreaks 44,000+

confirmed cases (Wuhan study)

81% of all cases were mild, with full recovery, as taken from ~73,000 patient records, with 44,000 confirmed cases, as of the reports date of February 19, 2020.

The remaining 19% are serious, or around 8360 from the above 44,000+-research patient pool.

Of the latter, 1012 (2.3%) died of the 44,000. The high-risk patients from this last group had:

1. Heart disease (cardiovascular disease)

2. High blood pressure (hypertension)

3. High blood sugar (diabetes mellitus)

4. Lung disease (chronic respiratory disease)

5. Above age 70 (demographic variable).

How cautious need I be, if am at high-risk- for death?
Picture 26

U se the annual flu (influenza) statistics for the USA as a comparative risk measure, in that 0.2% of all annual flu cases, die, typically with the same types of high-risk diseases as the above groups. Thus for coronavirus, the risk is at least 10-fold higher of death. Therefore, be extremely cautious, and if you are with multiple risks, then even more so.

The CDC suggests the following measures for those who are at higher risk

(in addition to the standard measures provided in the next chapter):
