What are Mob Farms? Mob Farms are structures that are built and used in order to help the player have mob drops more efficiently. The elements of a good and viable mob farm are the following:
1. A standard structure called a farm;
2. A mob grinder that is used in order to kill mobs more easily;
3. A room that is used in order to summon or spawn the mobs that will be grinded by the mob grinder; and
4. A mechanism that is used to funnel the mobs that was summoned or spawned by the room into a single location so that the mob grinder will be able to kill them more efficiently.
How to Build a Farm on Key and Viable Locations
Remember that the function of the farm is to be able to create a specific area where mobs will be easily summoned or spawned. In addition, it is intended that the mobs that will be spawned or summoned will be relegated to a single location so that the mob grinder will kill them more efficiently in terms of time and effort.
However, since there are existing rules with respect to spawning or summoning mobs in specific locations, a player may not be allowed to just create a farm anywhere. One thing you can do is to create a farm on key and viable locations. These key and viable locations are the following:
1. Underground
2. Sky
3. Superflat
4. The Nether
5. Surface
Farming Idea # 1: Building a Mob Farm on the Underground
The thing that you have to remember in building a mob farm on the underground is that the effectiveness of such farming is generally dependent on the number of caverns that are unlit within your vicinity. These caverns that are unlit give you other option places where you can spawn or summon mobs apart from your usual places for spawning and summoning.
Also, keep in mind that underground farms have a drop rate that is time independent. This means that the range of your spawning or summoning hostile mobs will remain as is.
Farming Idea # 2: Building a Mob Farm on the Sky
The thing that you have to remember in building a mob farm on the sky is that you always have to stay at the original height of your farm. By doing this, you will be able to produce loot. The main advantage of a sky farm is that it has the capability of spawning and summoning mobs in both day and night.
Farming Idea # 3: Building a Mob Farm on the Superflat
The thing that you have to remember in building a mob farm on the superflat is that these farms provide higher rates of spawned and summoned mobs than any other types of farms.
Farming Idea # 4: Building a Mob Farm on the Nether
The thing that you have to remember in building a mob farm on the Nether is that it is a difficult to farm in this location because of the lava. What you can do to circumvent the disadvantage is by using the Nether Portals to funnel the spawned mobs into another location.
Farming Idea # 5: Building a Mob Farm on the Surface
The thing that you have to remember in building a mob farm on the surface is that surface farms have effective rates on drops during daytime. However, once the surface becomes dark during the night time, the rates on drops significantly diminish.
How to Farm Drops
Remember that if you want to acquire rare drops and experience, avoid automatic killing of mobs. You have to kill the monster manually because it is only by killing them manually that you can acquire rare drops and experience. However, if it is only normal drops that you intend to acquire, you can use automatic killing of mobs.
Farming Idea # 6: A Guide on Farming Creeper, Enderman, and Skeleton Mobs
With respect to the Creeper Mob, the normal drops that are produced are gunpowders.
With the Enderman Mob, the normal drops that are produced are ender pearls. Remember however, that this farming idea does not generally work in farms that are water-based.
With the Skeleton Mob, the normal drops that are produced by this type of mob are arrows and bones. In addition, this type of mob also produces bow and random armor when a player killed the monster manually (player caused drops).
Farming Idea # 7: A Guide on Farming Slime, Spider, and Cave Spider Mobs
When it comes to the Slime Mob, the normal drops that are produced are slimeballs. Remember however, that in Minecraft versions prior to 14w05a, these type of mobs cannot swim in water upwards. Also, these types of mobs can only be spawned in specific chunks or in Swamp biomes.
The normal drops that are produced by the Spider Mob are strings. In addition, this type of mob also produces spider eyes when a player killed the monster manually (player caused drops).
With the Cave Spider Mob, the normal drops that are produced are also strings. In addition, this type of mob produces spider eyes when a player killed the monster manually (player caused drops). Remember that the passages can be clogged by climbing walls at mineshafts.
Farming Idea # 8: A Guide on Farming Wither Skeleton, Zombie and Zombie Pigman Mobs
The normal drops that are produced by the Wither Skeleton Mob, are coal and bones. In addition, this type of mob also produces random armor, stone sword and wither skeleton skull when a player killed the monster manually (player caused drops).
The normal drops that are produced by the Zombie Mob are rotten flesh. In addition, this type of mob also produces random armor, iron shovel, iron sword, carrot, potato and iron ingot when a player killed the monster manually (player caused drops).
