THE EVERYTHING ANTI-INFLAMMATION DIET BOOK
Dear Reader,
The Everything Anti-Inflammation Diet Book is an educational journey into the world of silent inflammation, which touches each and every one of us. My insatiable passion and curiosity about how nutrition and physical activity affect the human body has spurred my interest in anti-inflammatory living.
Inflammation presents itself to me via my skin. When my stress level is high and my diet is not up to par, I experience psoriasis and other skin-related conditions. I previously remedied these conditions by obtaining medications from a dermatologist, but over time, I have realized the positive (and negative) impact that food and physical activity (and inactivity) can have on the body. This infusion of knowledge has enabled me to better manage my skin issues and other inflammation-related consequences of suboptimal dietary and lifestyle habits.
I am honored to share with you the knowledge I have gained over the years practicing as a registered dietitian and exercise physiologist. I truly love to help other curious minds obtain proper and productive information about anything related to nutrition and physical activity. I hope you enjoy your journey.

This book is dedicated to my mom and dad, who gave me the tools necessary to succeed in life.
Acknowledgments
The primary people I must express my deepest gratitude and love toward are my wonderful family for their unwavering support and copious amounts of patience with my incessant need to create, develop, and work. I am grateful to my husband, Pete, for his dedication to our children and unrelenting focus on the happiness of our family; my only daughter, Olivia, for her unending wit and good humor; my first-born son, Nicko, for his great smile and sensitive heart; my strong-willed athlete, Douglas thanks for your hugs and my little sunshine, Lucas, who has added joy to the lives of everyone he encounters. My acknowledgments would not be complete without a special thank you to our cats, Cooper and Sierra, for joining me during my late-night writing sessions.
Finally, to all my readers, may you embrace an anti-inflammatory lifestyle so you can live well, laugh often, and love much.
Introduction
FROM THE FIRST DAY of life and throughout the life cycle, the human body is continually bombarded by toxins, chemicals, viruses, bacteria, and other potentially damaging factors. Fortunately, the body naturally responds to these adverse circumstances by initiating an inflammatory response. During this response, the potentially harmful threats are dealt with promptly and completely. Or at least this is what was once believed.
