Every cave you find could hold dangerous enemies, valuable
treasure, or both!
A Dangerous
World
Exploring the world of Minecraft is a lot of
fun. You never know what you might find.
You might wander through a temple in
the jungle. Or maybe youll dig deep
underground and find a lava waterfall. Be
careful, though. There could be dangerous
monsters hiding almost anywhere!
You will lose everything you were carrying if your character dies.
You will also lose your experience points. All other progress will
be saved.
Life and Death
Minecraft s monsters will attack you when
they see you. Their attacks will make your
characters health meter go down. Your
character will die if the health meter runs
out. This can be a real pain. All the items
you were carrying will fall on the ground
where your character died. You will also
respawn all the way back at your
characters bed.
Weapons and armor can be made of anything from wood to
diamonds. Gear made of better materials will work better and last
longer than gear made with weak materials.
The Right Stuff
Luckily, there are ways to defend against
enemy attacks. First, you can give your
character armor to wear. Armor lets your
character take more hits before dying. You
can also give your character weapons and a
shield to carry. This will let you fight back
against the monsters of Minecraft !
Breaking Down
Each weapon or piece of armor in Minecraft has a certain
amount of durability . It will lose durability the more you use it.
Eventually, it will break. You will need to craft a new item to
replace it.
Try not to get too close to a creeper when you are fighting. This
enemy can explode and cause huge damage!
Up Close and
Personal
You will fight most enemies in Minecraft
using melee combat. This is where you
get up close and swing a weapon to hit an
enemy. The simplest melee weapon is your
characters fists. Swords or axes are much
stronger, though. Your mining tools can also
be weapons. Try swinging a pickax or
shovel if you dont have anything else to
fight with.
Shooting enemies with arrows is a great way to keep your
character away from danger while fighting.
From a
Distance
Some enemies are hard to hit with melee
weapons. You will have to hit them from
far away. This is called ranged combat.
You will need a bow and some arrows to
shoot enemies from afar. Hold down the
attack button to pull back your bows string.
Holding the button longer will make
your attack stronger. Aim carefully before
letting go!
Try placing explosives on the ground, then shoot them with
flaming arrows to blow up your enemies. Be careful not to get
caught in the explosion yourself!
Using Your
Environment
Sometimes the world around you can help
defeat enemies. Look around if you run into
trouble. Is there lava nearby? Dig quickly to
send the lava flowing at enemies! You can
also use your surroundings to avoid
damage. Quickly build walls to protect
against ranged attacks. Or try digging a
tunnel to escape if you are outnumbered.
Skeletons are very common enemies throughout the world of
Minecraft . Watch out for their ranged attacks!
First Fights
The first enemies you fight in Minecraft will
probably be the basic monsters that come
out when it gets dark. These include
zombies, skeletons, and creepers. Zombies
move slowly. They only use melee attacks.
Skeletons will try to shoot you from a
distance. Creepers are really dangerous.
They will run at you and explode!
Why Fight?
Fighting monsters is a lot of fun. It can also be very rewarding.
Most enemies will drop useful items. You can use these items to
craft new weapons and other gear.
Cave spiders can pop up suddenly from dark areas. Be sure to
carry plenty of torches so the spiders cant hide so easily.
Getting Stronger
Youll find tougher enemies as you dig
deep and explore Minecraft s more
dangerous areas. Cave spiders hide in
caves. They can jump at you from dark
corners. Their bites will poison your
character! Slimes can be found in swamps
or underground areas. They will break
apart into smaller pieces as you attack
them. Keep fighting the smaller slimes until
theyre all gone.
Zombie pigmen carry powerful swords that can hurt your character
badly, so watch out!
Into the Nether
You will eventually reach an area in
Minecraft called the Nether. This area has
really tough enemies. Ghasts look like
white, floating boxes with many legs. They
can launch fireballs at you! Zombie pigmen
are another threat. They are tougher than
regular zombies. Keep exploring and dont
give up!
The Final Challenge
Past the Nether are even harder challenges. You can meet
Minecraft s toughest enemy in an area called the End. This final
foe is called the Ender Dragon. Youll know youre a Minecraft
pro if you can beat it!
