Cement m ixer This truck carries cement in a large drum to a bu ilding si te.
The drum rotates to s top the cement from setting. At t he building s ite, the driver reverses the rotation of t he drum. The cement pours out down chutes to w here it is needed.
When the drum is e mpty, water is p oured into it from the water tank. This washes away any bits of cement left in t he drum.
Spiral f lights This metal screw keeps the cement churning as t he drum rotates.
When the d rum rotates t he other way, the cement is forced out. Hopper The cement mixture is poured into the drum through here. Chutes These can be j oined together to carry the cement to where it is n eeded as it pours out of the drum. Ladder Drum Cement m ixture This is made of s and, cement dust, and s tones.
Fuel t ank Engine Driver Exhaust Drum m otor Some cement mixers have a separate engine to drive the drum. Wat er tank Water is needed to add to the c ement mixture and to wash out the d rum after deli very.

Mobile cranes n eed to be v ery stable when they lift heavy objects. They have stabilizer legs which extend out to k eep the crane from toppling over.
This truc k is designed to carry a cr ane. It has two engines. One drives the t ruck. The other operates the crane.
The crane can be r otated all the way around to l ift and drop things where they are needed. It s arm is c alled a boom. It e xtends out like a telescope to reach high or distant p laces. Mobile c rane

Some garbage trucks, like this one, only collec t recyclabl e materials such as paper, glass, and metal. Then it takes them to a recycling plant.
These speciall y designed trucks carry garbage from our homes to l andfill sit es. Crews take bins full of garbage to t he rear of t he truck.
Here they are p icked up and emptied by t he trucks hy draulics. Bags of garbage are thrown in and hydraulic rams p ush the garbage further back. Garbage t ruck

In cities around the world, small trucks clear garbage from the streets. They drive slowly with orange warni ng lights flashing. The circular brushes have vacuums behind them. The vacuums suck up l eaves and garbage from the side of t he road.
