Opening Comments
Though this book pokes a little fun at lawyers, looney lawsuits and our legal system, I have tremendous respect for our laws and legal process.
This book comes from my passion for our justice system. Dont take everything in it too seriously.
It only is meant to be fun, make you laugh a little and promote awareness in a humorous way about how vulnerable we are to expensive lawsuits and litigation. I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.
See You in CourtOur Suing Society
U.S. News & World Report
There was a time when someone accidentally spilled hot coffee on their lap, they might call themselves clumsy. But today, they call a lawyer.
From Judge Judy to Judge Joe Brown, from Divorce Court to the Peoples Court, Americans are suing each other like never before.
When Linda K. got kicked off the cheerleading team for failing chemistry, you would think she would turn to a tutor, but instead she turned to a lawyer. She sued the school over its academic policies.
There is no doubt that some lawsuits must be litigated in court for a number of reasons. Some people dont keep their word; they break contract agreements, or performed a shoddy repair job on your home or car and refuse to make it right.
However, there are some lawsuits that probably should never see the light of day in a courtroom. Some are funny, some are frivolous and some are just plain outrageous, but they all beg the question: How did this case ever go to trial?

Woman Sues Her Husband for No Sex
Case #: 281
This is the case of:
Give It to Me Baby
In France, Bella Fontaine claimed she and her then husband, Marc Fontaine hadnt had sex in very, very long time.
She really missed being held, kissed, and made love to by her husband. Bella couldnt take the lack of sex anymore, so she sued her husband for not having sex with her in over 20 years.
Marc said, He was very tired from working long hours and he had some health issues that prevented him from having sex with his wife.
If you were the judge, how would you rule?
Would you:
a) Award the ex-wife money because her husband hadnt had sex with her in over 20 year?
b) Rule in favor of the husband because of his health issues and being very tired?
c) Throw her case out of court and tell her to marry someone who likes to have sex and has no health issues?
The Ruling
The Judge tried to light the wifes fire by ordering her former husband to pay her nearly $14,000 for not having sex with her, while they were married.
Ah The Love of My Life
Case #: 295
This is the case of:
Is it cheaper to keep her?
John and Jennifer had been engaged seven weeks, and they had planned to marry and share a beautiful life together. But after thinking things over, John told his fiance he no longer wanted to get married.
Jennifer, however, responded by filing a lawsuit. Because he broke off their engagement, she sued John for $178,000. She sought $93,000 for pain and suffering, $60,000 for lost income from her legal practice, and $25,000 for psychiatric counseling expenses.
If you were the judge, how would you rule?
Would you:
a) Award her the $178,000 she was seeking?
b) Throw her case out because it is frivolous and outrageous?
c) Tell her to be more careful about the men she chooses to date and marry?
The Verdict
She was awarded $178,000.
I guess its true: Theres a thin line between love and a lawsuit.
