23. BIBLIOGRAPHY
THIS IS not an extensive bibliography. Very little has been written on the process prior to 1926, when Harry L. Hietts Manual on Stencil Screen Process Work, Formulas, Working Instructions, and General Up to Date Information came out, published by the author. The book not only had a long title, but had a long publishing life. It is out of print now. This was followed by Bert Zahns Silk Screen Methods of Reproduction, published in 1935.
Listed below are active books on the screen process.
Biegeleisen, J. I., Silk Screen Stencil Craft as a Hobby, New York, Harper and Brothers, 1935. Deals with the craft and hobby aspects of the process. It is now out of print but in circulation in some libraries.
Biegeleisen, J. I., and Cohn, M. A., Silk Screen Techniques, New York, Dover Publications, 1958. Deals with all the major processes and techniques of silk screen printing. Emphasis, however, is on the fine arts aspect of the process, known as serigraphy.

The authoritative trade journal for the process industry is Screen Process Magazine, published monthly by the Signs of the Times Publishing Company, 407 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio. This periodical features articles by the experts in the various ramifications of the process. It is also an important vehicle for learning about suppliers and their products through their ads.
The companion magazine to Screen Process is the monthly journal, Signs of the Times. Though this deals primarily with sign craft, there are many overlapping areas in process work. It is published by the same publisher as Screen Process Magazine .
Display World, also a Signs of the Times periodical, treats the developments in the field of merchandising, displays and point-of-sale advertising.
In addition to the above, most graphic arts magazines carry occasional stories and features on the process. One of these magazines is Graphic Arts Monthly, published by the Graphic Arts Publication Company, 608 S. Dearborn Street, Chicago 5, Ill.
The S.P.P.A. Int. (Screen Process Printing Association International) published in 1954 a manual prepared by its Vocational Development Committee. This is a brief survey of the process, materials, techniques, etc.
The S.P.P.A. has also collated data of tremendous value to the processor. A virtual treasure-chest of information is published and distributed to members of the Association. Additional segments are mailed periodically to the interested in a loose-leaf binder made for the purpose. This is the Associations Manual for Screen Process Printers. The S.P.P.A.s address is 549 West Randolph Street, Chicago 6, Illinois.
