Did you realize that there are 500,000 centenarians alive today? How have people in Okinawa, Costa Rica, and Greece maintained their health and vitality for such a long time?

Simple modifications in food and lifestyle can avert the great majority of early deaths. In Here to Stay, Dr. Clifton Barkley, a veteran nutrition expert and physician, examines the top fifteen diseases and conditions that lead to early death in the United States and around the world, including diabetes, Parkinsons disease, high blood pressure, and various cancers. He also explains how nutritional and lifestyle changes can sometimes be more effective than prescription medications and other medical procedures, allowing us to lead healthier and longer lives.

The plain fact is that while most doctors are proficient at managing acute illnesses, they struggle to avoid chronic conditions. Every year, 1.6 million Americans lose their lives to the top fifteen causes of mortality. Its not necessary to be like this. You can discover what foods to eat and lifestyle modifications to adopt in order to live longer by paying attention to Clifton Barkleys advise, which is all supported by solid scientific evidence.

Author Clifton Barkleys no-nonsense, results-driven diet, exercise program, and general lifestyle are all here to stay in his book How to Live and Not Die.

Clifton Barkley, a family physician for more than 21 years, will tell you that neither doctors nor pharmaceuticals can guarantee you perfect health or immunity to illness and pain. The best health treatment is good self-care, which begins with altering our eating habits.

In one to five months, the majority of medical issues can be prevented or even reversed with the help of the nutrition-based program How to live. This is a big statement, but the science and the hundreds of people who have used this method support it.

The simple fact is that you do not need to be ill.

The majority of Americans consume excessive amounts of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, and are inadequate in the vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients (micronutrients) found in plants (macronutrients). By consuming packaged and processed foods, too much meat and dairy, and excessive levels of salt and sugar, the results of this normal diet are that we are not only shortening our lives but also harming our energy, vitality, and daily health. Consuming foods high in phytonutrients, such as greens, beans, onions, mushrooms, berries, and seeds, is what we need to do. These scrumptious and plentiful foods provide the widest variety of micronutrients, and when eaten in sufficient amounts, they lower cholesterol and blood pressure, prevent and treat heart disease and diabetes, as well as lessen hunger and food cravings.

Eat for Life delivers everything you need to alter the direction of your health and put this game-changing program to work for you, with its foundation in the most recent nutritional science and its recipes, menu plans, and client testimonials.

Clifton Barkley has been a nutritionist and fitness instructor in New York for over 21 years.

A LONG LIFE?

(what's life longevity and Benefit of long life)

The dramatic increase in the average life expectancy during the 20th century was one of society's most outstanding achievements. Currently, according to a United Nations research the average life expectancy at birth is over 83 years in Japan and at least 81 years in several other countries, yet most infants born before 1900 did not survive past the age of 50.

Due to the tremendous increase in life expectancy, half of the children born in 2007 will live to be at least 103 years old, while half of the children born in Japan in the same year will live to be 107 years old (Boseley, 2009). It seems evident that people would be delighted to live longer because most humans desire to live long lives.

The societal problems that long life has brought about include resource scarcity, financial hardship, and other issues. To provide a comprehensive view of the topic, this chapter will discuss only the advantages of humans living longer.

Both individuals and society as a whole gain from longevity.

People have always prized longevity as a form of wealth and fortune. And wisdom is frequently linked to the old. People have always regarded the idea of dying to be terrible, and the majority of them make an effort to live lengthy lives. Living longer enables one to enjoy a fulfilling later life and spend more time with family. For the majority of their lives, people work and take care of their families. Therefore, it seems to sense that people should be able to age with dignity and in good health after a lifetime of paid employment. That some people die before enjoying a nice old age is regrettable. On the other hand, as people live longer, their children have the opportunity to compensate their parents for their care. A saying states that no matter how much a tree wants to be at peace, the wind will still blow, and no matter how much the tree's kids want help, it won't be for their real family. It brings deep sadness and long-lasting regret for many people. If parents live longer, kids may respect them and spend more time with them. Therefore, longevity encourages a happy relationship among family members.

Longevity allows people to use their knowledge and abilities to have a bigger effect on society. Many distinguished scientists, academics, and other elites died in regret over their failure to carry out their plans. For instance, Zhu Shenghao, a skilled Chinese translator of Shakespeare's works, passed away at the age of 32 from illness. Shakespeare might emerge in more Chinese translations if he lived longer, and more people might be able to recognize Chinese translation skills. The young age of English poets like Byron, who died at 36, Shelley, who died at 29, and Keats, who died at 25, is another illustration. They all pass away much too young even though they are all very talented and fantastic assets to academia. When people read these poems now, their vast talent can still inspire a great deal of respect. How tragic that the world has lost so many brilliant talents. Because people are living longer, there may be more discoveries and inventions made by scientists, authors, and musicians. Therefore, those who live longer can make a greater impact on the world.

The extended lifespan of people has benefits for corporate markets as well. According to popular thinking, the three primary periods of life are childhood, adulthood, and old age. However, there are currently two classifications of old age: young old and fourth age (oldest old). Businesses are beginning to recognize the older population as a sizable market, according to an increasing number of publications about the "silver market." Because the older population possesses a sizable amount of wealth and because there are more elders than other age groups, it makes sense for businesses to create products that appeal to this market and direct their advertising toward it. The consumption of the elderly population can help the economy. Seniors' financial clout can also be utilized to combat ageist stereotypes that are regularly propagated by advertising Additionally, more nursing homes must be built to serve the aging population. To reduce unemployment and maintain social stability, this creates additional jobs.

The conclusion that people living longer is advantageous for both individuals and society arises from the viewpoint outlined above.

What will work look like in the future as life expectancies increase?

As life expectancy increases, many individuals may desire or need to work longer hours. These workers already contribute significantly to economic growth, and their impact will only grow. However, not everyone is gaining from the increase in life expectancy. Many populations have stagnating life expectancies, notably people of color and those with poor incomes.

TREND FOR SPOT LONGEVITY

Due to a variety of factors, including financial necessity, appreciation of the work, or enjoyment of the social ties that employment affords, many Americans are choosing to continue working much past the traditional retirement age as they live longer.

The enhanced productivity and ingenuity that older individuals bring to the economy are very beneficial. By allowing people to work as long as they are able and desire to, we will also see an increase in consumer spending. Many people will find themselves unable to continue working as they age, even though they desire or need to because we know that many people of color and those with low incomes are less likely to experience a longer life and health span.

As people live longer on average, it will be more challenging to retire early due to the cost of living and healthcare.

Even while I'm looking forward to living longer, I also want to enjoy my life outside of work and stay young enough to do so.

HOW WILL THIS AFFECT ME?

As more people want to work longer hours, there will be opportunities and challenges for firms and employees alike.

Employee Possibilities

Longer workdays have benefits including preventing or minimizing loneliness, giving people a feeling of purpose and providing them more time to create financial security that will enable longer lifespans. Longevity can be increased by longer workdays.

Older workers might look at other employment options such as phased retirement, consulting, and gig work.

By beginning a new job or finding employment in a different industry, older employees can pursue new professional interests.

challenges faced by employees

Even with longer hours, challenges still exist.

Ageism and erroneous beliefs among employers and coworkers are the biggest barriers to older people continuing to work.

For older workers of color, age- and race-based discrimination pose a combined problem.

To stay up with the quick pace of progress, one will need to invest continuously in training.

As people live longer, they will need to find a longer-term source of financial support.

Retirement income stability has declined, even for the 50% of workers who have employer-sponsored retirement savings. Instead of traditional pensions, employers increasingly provide 401(k) and 403(b) plans, placing employees' retirement savings and investment management at risk. If pressed into retirement before they're ready, workers might not have enough money to pay for everything.
