100% to Charity
For the past 20 years, my professional passion has been helping people make better decisions with money. My career has been sincerely gratifying because of all the people who have benefitted from my advice, articles, education and books.
In 2007, I was really fortunate to have sold my wonderful client practice to pursue more opportunities to put unique financial education programs into the workplace as opposed to product-oriented solutions.
At that time we started the YIH CHARITABLE GIVING FUND through the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF). I am very proud that 100% of profits from this book will be donated to our giving fund through the ECF.
Your support will help support charities in our community that help children because they represent our future.
Thank you!

About RetireHappy.ca
RetireHappy.ca is an award-winning site that publishes top-quality, timeless financial planning information.
There are many other financial and investing sites that focus on minute-by-minute investment ideas, changing markets and fast paced trends. As the old saying goes, "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime". RetireHappy.ca is a site that focuses on practical, timeless information that can make a lifetime difference instead of a five minute difference.
We understand the power of the reader and we want to make sure that we deliver information that people want to know. To achieve this we have created a site that is not only easy to use but we want to make sure the reader can find the information they want. We encourage interaction and comments because we all learn from each other.
RetireHappy.ca is about bringing experts and the people who want the information together. We strive to be the site that everyone thinks of if they need good quality financial planning information.
Acknowledgements
Back in February 2011, I celebrated 11 years of writing a personal finance column, so it was fitting that I launched my new blog www.RetireHappyBlog.ca , which replaced my old blog www.WealthWebGurus.com .
This book is simply a collection of some of my favourite and most popular articles on retirement. As a result, the book does not have to be read in order; just pick a chapter, read it and reflect.
Special thanks go out to Tom Drake of Canadian Finance Blog for helping me with the technology side of the site and transferring my articles over. He has been instrumental in the success of Retire Happy Blog as he continues to manage all of the technical aspects of the site.
Thanks also go out to Sarah Milton for re-editing this book on short notice. Every good book needs a good editor and I have the best! Thanks Sarah.
Running a blog is a labour of love, as it requires a lot of time and consistency. I am thankful that I have an understanding wife who allows me to bring my laptop everywhere I go (even on holidays) so I can keep up with the writing and posting.
I am thankful to many contributors of the RetireHappy.ca including Sarah, Donna, Scott, Wayne, Doug, and Sean.
Thanks to Darren Smith and Sid Swick of Clearpoint Benefit Solutions for their generous donation and for being a sponsor of this book.
Most importantly, I am thankful to my readers. A blog is only successful with an audience so I am very grateful to everyone who has read my blog.
What is Retirement?
When you hear the word retirement, what do you think? Is it closing one chapter of life, and then opening another? Some might call it the best days of your life and, in many cases, retirement can be the best days of your life. Unfortunately, for some retirement is disappointing. Really, retirement might be thought of as a continuum between two extremes: The best days of your life and the worst days of your life.
