Introduction

The Powerfood Nutrition Plan is a guidebook to help you break out of your routine and become more powerful in all areas of your life. The book breaks the usual mold for nutrition books.

First of all, its aimed at mennot the usual nutrition books target audience. But men have just as many, if not more reasons to eat right than women. I should know: my career in nutrition has always focused on men in one way or another. When I did my doctoral research, it was on male body builders. My clients, including many pro athletes, were almost all men until 1994, when I moved my practice to Seattle. Even today, about 60 percent of the work I do is with men. I, as well as anyone, know how badly men need healthy, practical eating advice. In this book, I look to do something about that. Also, rather than creating one diet that uses 10 chapters to explain how you can fit it into your life, I have created 20 different meal plans in 11 chapters dedicated to each of the different goals that you might want to excel in at some point in your life. You choose what you want to work on in your life, and when.

Generalized diets for the masses can get across the big dos and donts regarding health promotion, disease prevention, and basic body-weight management. I call them the Nutrition 101s of the diet world. But once youve got the basics down and you want to achieve more, you need to move on to sophisticated principles that draw on the cutting edge of nutrition science. I tell my clients that what I offer is a customized program based on their personal needs and goals. No one gets the same plan, and every consult is a graduate-level nutrition course based on you. It digs deeper and gives you more detail and practical guidance than the typical one-stop diet. Use The Powerfood Nutrition Plan right, and you can reach the levels of excellence that you strive to achieve, whether in the boardroom, the locker room, or the bedroom.

Using The Powerfood Nutrition Plan
