Preface
As a P.G.A. professional and golf school owner, I have been blessed with the honor of spending my days helping others learn to play the game that I have such passion for. Through all my time teaching, I have observed a pattern develop with golfers as they approach their senior years. Their flexibility and strength level begin to change, then they often struggle to perform a swing that no longer fits their body. That's where my experience comes in, and I truly enjoy sharing it with others. As you will see, there are some basic changes that need to be made, both mental and physical, that can change your game and make golf more fun than it's ever been. That is what this book is about; a reflection of the patterns that I have seen on the lesson tee over the years. I will explain the reasons that we need to make adjustments in our minds and bodies, and give you an easy way to accomplish both through thoughts and drills. We will discuss flexibility and how to increase yours. You will understand how today's equipment can help you, and what clubs should not be in your bag. There are instructions for a basic swing motion that we all should have, and how we can fit it to our own bodies. You will learn the importance of the short game, pitching, chipping, putting, and bunker play, and methods to become razor-sharp at all of them. Can you play and practice more effectively? The answer is yes, when you utilize tricks like the Bifocal Backswing and the D.W.I.T. course management system described in this book. It will not only enlighten you on the latest teaching methods, but will provide lots of fun doing so. Ladies, there is a special section for

you to address a few additional things you should know about your swing that don't apply to the men.
Wait a minute! How can one swing work for everyone? Simply put, it can't. What we need to do is build a foundation around a few basic principles, and let your body dictate what style you will use. There are almost 25 million golfers in the United States, and nearly half are over 40 years of age. I do not believe that over 11 million golfers can swing the same swing. There are too many variables with height, flexibility, strength, and athletic ability to give everyone the same swing. However, if we subscribe to some solid fundamentals specifically tailored to the senior golfer, we can all play better.
My teaching philosophy is reflected throughout this book. It can be summed up as 1)Attitude is everything, 2)Each of us is an individual, so what one person can do may not be possible for the next person, and 3)If the basic functions of a swing work, it's up to the individual to develop style according to their body's capabilities.
I like setting a foundation for all of my students to expand upon. This will prevent the search for the magic cure when something goes off in your swing. There is nothing worse than changing something every week in your golf swing. You feel lost. This book will give you the direction to take to play better and have more fun.
Enjoy your journey through this book. The chapters are written in a way that will allow you easily to refer back to a certain topic for future reference. I recommend that you start by reading the entire book. There are tricks of the trade and solutions to questions that you may have throughout each chapter, and I wouldn't want you to miss a thing. Feel free to make marks at the areas that you need the most help or interest you the most. Then you can go back later and put the principles into practice. Enjoy!
