Foreword

I have been treating people for over 20 years using a comprehensive system of medicine based on homeopathic medicines, called Heilkunst, founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago and developed further by others since. Heilkunst includes what is commonly referred to as homeopathy, but goes much further, getting at the deeper underlying issues and diseases that create and maintain todays complex, chronic health conditions.

In treating people for a variety of health problems, questions about dental health came up, and the question was always if something could be done using homeopathy and Heilkunst. The answer, of course, was yes, that often treatment could forestall a more serious dental issue, and avoid such extreme measures as root canals, extractions and gum surgery. While these are sometimes necessary, they are most often avoidable. I also faced the problem as well of those children who viewed any trip to the dentist as a very frightening one, so anything that could be done, would make life easier and more pleasant for them and for their parents.

The advice in this book is a distillation of all that Ive learned over the years from other pioneers in the dental, homeopathic, and nutritional field, as well as my own researches and clinical work. It is indeed amazing how much can be done at home for yourself and your family to keep your teeth and gums healthy, how simple and inexpensive the measures mostly are. The only ingredient you need to add is your own willingness to learn and motivation to undertake the steps outlined where applicable. If you act on what is in this book, you can potentially save thousands down the road on avoidable dental work.

While the measures in this book are designed to be used at home with great effectiveness, every case is different, and in more complex cases, you should seek out an experienced practitioner (see Resources Section), and in emergencies, if you feel you cannot get help immediately otherwise, seek out the regular dental services in your area (preferably from a dentist familiar with alternative approaches (see Resources sections).

Introduction

Lets face it...

Lets face it - despite all the advances of modern dentistry, a trip to the dentist is one we would all rather avoid if possible. And it is possible. This book is intended to give you the knowledge you need to take care of your teeth and gums properly and also to use natural and homeopathic remedies should you still experience an oral health issue.

Between good oral hygiene and safe and effective homeopathic and other natural remedies, you can solve most of the issues people tend to go to the dentist for. You will not only gain peace of mind, but save yourself a lot of money in the bargain. And this is not rocket science, but just a lot of common sense and simple first-aid.

It is strange that they call it common sense, as it seems to be anything but common. What you will learn here is not taught to dentists at dental school, yet comes from dentists themselves, and it goes against most of what you have been told about dental health from so-called dental health experts. Maybe it is called common sense because it is the sense that you dont find with so-called experts!

In this book you will learn some surprising things about teeth Teeth are alive - photo 2

In this book you will learn some surprising things about teeth:

Teeth are alive and constantly adding and losing minerals.

Tiny cavities are a natural part of this dynamic process.

Your teeth will stay healthy and your cavities naturally small with proper diet and tooth care.

You will also learn some surprising things about looking after your teeth properly such as:

Traditional brushing and flossing do little for dental health.

Simple things at home like salt and baking soda make the best toothpastes.

Most toothpastes, even natural ones, contain a substance that blocks healthy tooth re-mineralization.

You will further learn what your teeth and gums need to stay healthy, things that you can easily do for yourself, such as:

Eating the right kind of diet for healthy teeth and gums.

Taking the right kind of supplements to promote strong tooth enamel.

What not to do to avoid harming your teeth.

And finally, you will also learn how to use homeopathic remedies:

To promote proper tooth mineralization for strong tooth enamel.

To treat tooth abscesses to avoid root canals in most cases.

To offset the negative effects of any dental surgery that you might still need.

This book is designed to help you take dental health measures at home that are non-toxic, safe and effective, and even to handle many dental emergencies at home.

In MediZine , v.6 #2, April, 2000, the American Dental Association states that there is a dental epidemic with 42% of those over 65 and 24% of those over 44 years of age no longer having any natural teeth. This does not take into account all those who have had some teeth pulled and replaced, nor those with cavity-filled teeth, or with root-canals. As Mother Earth News reports, the ADAs own figures show that the average American has 14 teeth decayed, filled or missing by the age of 20. And if our teeth are ailing it is also the rest of our body that is affected. Good oral health is a key to good general health. So, what you do to help your teeth and gums will go a long way to making you healthier overall.

There is a whole new type of dentistry emerging, called biological dentistry, that recognizes the important link between dental health and overall health, as well as the negative effects on both teeth and the body generally, of fluoride, silver/mercury amalgam fillings, and root canals. More information on finding a biological dentist is at the end of this book, but our goal here is to minimize, if not eventually eliminate, trips to the dentist.

Lets face it a dentist is essentially a specialist surgeon by training, a person who fixes in the mouth what is broken and cant be repaired by the body itself. But the body can repair most things if you give it the proper tools and conditions, and trips to the dentist, preferably a holistic or biological dentist, will be few and far between. And prevention, in this case, begins at home. It really is true in this case that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Understanding Your Teeth

Our Best Friends/Worst Enemies

Our teeth are our best friends, but when they arent healthy, they become a major pain. The main problem we have with our teeth is that they get large cavities, crack and break, or get inflamed at the roots, all of which can produce unbearable pain. Even if the pain is manageable, these problems often make it difficult if not impossible for us to eat.

Therein lies the nub of the issue: there is a direct and critical link between the health of our teeth (and gums) our oral health and the health of the rest of our body (and mind). And it should be no surprise if I tell you that the critical factor in the health of both your teeth and your body generally is proper nutrition. In many ways, we become what we eat.

The Foundation of Oral Health: Your Teeth and Your Diet

The pioneer in exploring the link between health and diet, and in particular, between diet and healthy teeth was Dr. Weston Price, trained as both a doctor and dentist. By the early 20th century the birth of food as an industrial rather than agricultural activity through food processing and chemical additives had radically changed the way Americans ate.
