A comedian once said that stress was just after youd just spent a passionate aft ernoon with your girlfriend when your wife suddenly rings your mobile and demands that you come home immediately as she wants to show you some interesting photos which she acquired via the private detective agency she works for!
Stress is a mental situation which seriously affects the body functions, sometimes to the point where your body almost ceases functioning. It can manifest itself in multiple nasty ways which could easily hospitalise you if not attended to. It can be a killer!
Your subconscious mind almost totally controls your body functions and any confusion in the signals can cause chaos in your physical operating system..... your body. To put it another way.... viruses and program malfunctions in your mental soft ware can have profound effects o n your physical hardware. These mental viruses and malfunctions are commonly known as Stress. You will have experienced plenty of this in your own life so you will be totally famili ar with the effect it has such as upset sleep patterns at night and chaotic rambling though patterns during waking hours. Sometimes its a brief experience which disappears when the main problem source is re solved but other times it can carry on for months....... sometimes even years. You can take medicine such as Librium or Valium to reduce the effects or input illegal substances to temporarily help the situation but these are not a cur e, only a temporary relief. The best way to handle an excessive stress situation is by using meditation techniques, the depth of which can be adjusted to handle your current situation. For minor stress problems you can use simple meditation which can be learnt in days but for serious long-term stress problems you need much deeper techniques, almost verging on hypnosis.
This little book explains two highly unusual methods ranging from a simple almost instant technique to a more complicated one which handle s deep soul-destroying stress. During the years I owned the Australian Mindpower Research Foundation we spent a considerable portion of our overall research time investigating ways to overcome stress in a useable manner so that clients could quickly and easily apply the methodology to solve their own stress problems. Our results were sometimes quite spectacular and there are currently thousands of Australian and New Zealanders living a relatively stress-free life thanks to our research and the resultant methods we were able to publish.
The basic concept of meditation is to reduce the frequency of your brain wave activity to a lower level so that you achieve the dreamy state that you feel when you are day-dreaming or just as you wake up in the morning. You achieve the same feeling just before you go to sleep at night also. This is generally regarded as the Alpha state where your brain is ticking along at around 10 cycles per second (CPS) instead of the usual wide-awake frequency of 14-18 CPS.
The Alpha range is generally between 8-13 CPS while the lower more relaxing Theta range is between 4-7 CPS. There is a deeper state called Delta but we will not cover that here as we are only after simple but effective meditation techniques that you can learn quickly. These days many individuals simply dont have the free time to spend multiple months learning the deeper states.
The idea of this small book is to get you fired up into a basic meditative state within a couple of days. In fact within 20 minutes of picking up this book you will have enough knowledge to try the basic process immediately. Even in this light state you are likely to notice an immediate improvement in your stress levels. I can recall many years ago when Transcend ental Meditation was all the rage. It achieved a quiet Alpha state but took a long time to learn. Nevertheless people who used it found it quite effective. But the technology has moved on since those early days and now there are simpler techniques that appear to be more effective without h aving to use repetitive mantras and spending months in the learning process.
The easiest basic meditational state to access is the Alpha brain frequency range. We drop automatically into this range many times during the course of a single day. When we first wake up in the morning we pass through the Alpha state and likewise as we go to sleep at night we pass through it. During the course of the day we drop into Alpha every time we daydream. It is a natural state which gives us time out from active conscious thinking. You have probably noticed that right after a daydream you feel a little more relaxed and the tension in your body has diminished. You might even feel slightly sleepy. Also when you watch a boring TV soap program you tend to drop to Alpha and this can last for quite an extended period, at least until the program is finished. In this situation you are not required to think consciously so your wide-awake beta brain patterns die away.
You normally daydream with your eyes open but the strange thing is you do not see what is in front of you. You see a totally different picture on your mental screen. I have had a lot of people tell me that they cannot picture a mental screen while they are doing visualization techniques, yet they can generate one while they are daydreaming. So every sane individual is fully capable of generating a mental picture screen on demand but in many cases it requires considerable practice. When I first started my mental visualization techniques I was unable to picture a screen and it took me several weeks of effort to achieve this simple mental exercise. These days I can raise one on demand almost instantly whether my eyes are open or shut . I usually practice by picturing an orange, an apple and a lemon. Then I cut each one into pieces with an imaginary knife and taste them. The taste buds certainly respond to this, particularly the lemon. This form of visualization is not necessary for the simpler stress relief and meditation programs but later on as you evolve deeper techniques then the ability to successfully visualize a mental picture screen will help immensely.
There is nothing dangerous or magical about accessing this basic Alpha state as the human mind is programmed to work this way. It is a part of our natural mental functioning.
I have had people ask if the process is dangerous and my response is to ask them if they find daydreaming dangerous. The lower Theta state is also a natural function of the human mind except that we can arrange our mental processing to maintain a Beta consciousness while cruising along in Theta. This is generally called Mind awake Body asleep. It means that while we are in the totally relaxed Theta state (which is akin to sleep) we can maintain a fully conscious Beta awareness. In effect we are operating in a dual brain frequency state and are aware that out body is totally and completely relaxed while another part of our brain is ticking over with full conscious awareness. Those who eventually achieve this Theta state usually comment that it produce s a n awesome feeling and has been likened to taking a shot of pain-relieving Morphine after suffering an accident. However initially I will be showing you how to achieve a basic meditation state quickly and easily with minimal effort on your part . The more complicated procedures can wait until you have acquired the basic skills, then if you wish to pursue the process further you can experiment with Theta.
