Introduction
There are more than 350,000 people in the United States alone that were treated for depression last year. Thats just one country; considering that you have countries, such as Australia and the United Kingdom, and continents, such as Africa and Asia, the numbers quoted are but a dip in the ocean when compared with the reality in the whole world today.
Depression, anxiety, stress, and strain are at epidemic levels because the world expects so much of people. The cost of living is expensive, and the pressures to conform to certain standards are higher than ever before. Wages are decreasing while the cost of living is skyrocketing, causing more and more stress where it is unnecessary. Millions of people all around the world are suffering and cannot afford traditional help for relieving this stress.
In a consumer society, people are expected to act in a certain way and to conform to certain standards, but whats not considered is that its not possible for everyone to fit societys mold. That mold puts an expectation of achievement, marriage, producing children, being successful homeowners, and moving forward in the career ladder. The expectations are unrealistic for many who were not born with a silver spoon, although even those who were are pressured even more to achieve more than their predecessors because competition is so rife.
It isnt any wonder that half of the population of the United States will see a counselor, a psychologist, or a therapist at some time in their lives. The majority of the people who do not see a counselor need to, but cannot afford to, which adds more stress to their life.
If you have come here looking for solutions, you are in the right place. You can get your life back, but you need to be prepared to put in a little effort. Does that mean that this book is going to expose you to more pressure? The answer is that you will need to help in the process, but thats all. It is explained clearly and thoroughly, and if you follow the simple steps outlined in this book, you can wave goodbye to your therapist and begin living a very fruitful life that makes you feel happy and energetic, giving you back the reins over your own confidence levels and allowing you to step out of the rut you find yourself in.
Life is a wonderful place of discovery, although pitfalls sometimes get in the way of the view. I am here to help you to discover how to move forward and be the happy human being that you were always intended to be.
This book is written for the average person who enjoys receiving information in an understandable way. I am going to keep it as simple as possible because you dont want to hear too much about the technical jargon behind depression. You just want to feel better, and that is completely understandable.
There are so many people out there suffering from depression, and that is a real shame because it is a very treatable disorder. I hope you learn a lot from this book, and I hope you finally gain control over what is dragging you down. There IS hope for people suffering from depression. Having depression does not make you a terrible person. It means that you have a chemical imbalance, or your brain is not making enough of the chemicals to make you feel good again at least not yet. Even if you are not depressed but are simply feeling burned out or at a stress level that you cannot manage, this book will help you find solutions.
One of the things that you may not have appreciated is that stress is a ticking clock. Its only a matter of time before the alarm goes off and starts to affect the life that you are living. More and more people are being treated by doctors for stress-related ailments, and its a real modern-day problem. You have to appreciate that the mind is suffering from overload that it wasnt designed to cope with. All the technological advances that mankind has brought about mean that we are overloading on the communication front and are being bombarded by external expectations through social media and even through magazines and social norms.
No one wants to be the odd one out. Everyone wants to be a winner, but when you look at the reality of life, there are always going to be people who are content with their lot and who are not searching for some kind of validation. These are very fortunate people, but the fact is that they are not in the majority. We want to be fitter. We want to be slimmer. We want to exercise more. We want to be promoted and recognized for our true potential, but the road that leads there is a precarious one where some believe they thrive on stress. Of course, there is a positive side to stress, but in general, its working you to your limits, and when you reach those limits, then stress becomes what you concentrate on instead, and thats when problems really happen.
In this book, I cover stress and depression, as well as burnout, because these are common ailments in this day and age, and unless you take control over your approach to life, you may find yourself a victim. Perhaps you have already succumbed to depression, which is a very real thing. If you have, then there is still hope for you to help yourself move out of this frame of mind and approach to life to find your true value without letting stress levels dictate this to you.
The practices suggested in this book are very real ones, and they do work. However, you need to prepare yourself to put in a certain amount of effort. Does that mean opening yourself up to potential failure? Not really, because you can move forward simply by slowing down and realizing what you are doing to your life and how your thoughts impact your mental welfare. With a little more understanding of how the mind works, you can use it to your benefit and train your mind to see life in a different way one that puts you clearly in the drivers seat of your life.
