Hypnosis padawans note on transatlantic punctuation etc: British English punctuation conventions are used throughout this book. Readers can expect to find punctuation outside of quotation marks, e.g. words, unless the quote ends with a punctuation mark originally. The correct American usage is words. That is, with the punctuation mark inside the quotation marks.
In addition the use of single speech marks is used rather than the usual . This is for tidiness. It is a perfectly acceptable convention in modern English to use single speech marks.
In British English the convention is to use apostrophes after numbers e.g. 1000s. In the US 1000s is correct.
Furthermore, people new to hypnosis may be thrown by the apparent lack of grammar in hypnosis language. This is normal and part of the reason the language is hypnotic. Thank you for your patience. Shall we get on with it?

Prologue: The boy who walked in circles.
Lets start with a true story
There was a boy who had been kept in a room his whole life. It was dark all the time. He only knew this tiny room. He had little human contact and was only able to walk in circles around and around his tiny room. He was eventually rescued from his abusive home. His new carers took him to a park. He had never been outside, amongst trees and grass and pretty flowers. The boy walked in circles. Circles about the size of his old dark room. The developmental templates had been set. He could only walk in circles; it was all he had ever known. The window of opportunity had closed

Introduction: The trouble with hypnotic influence.
The aim of this book is to help YOU become a Wizard of Trance.
My definition of the term wizard of trance is reserved for anyone who was a major figure in the history of persuasive communication; no matter what field they specialised in. My definition for being considered a wizard of trance (just a bit of silly fun on my part; its a gimmick!) is that the person included in this book is not here as a great hypnotist proper although that he may well be, but because he understands and contributes, however slight, to the knowledge of hypnotic persuasion in general. All the wizards are men. We may take their principles and where appropriate use them ethically, for good or notice when others are using them against us in order to programme us to THEIR benefit! This book will make you persuasion proof.
Another presumption of this book is
NEVER COPY A LOSER.
When I was studying film making at a University in England I realised I was wasting my time and dropped out. Why? None of the teachers had ever made a film! How can you teach what you havent done???! That was my guiding principle in this book: in seeking to improve my hypnotic abilities I studied persuasion. Lots of people write books about this subject. That I know none of them have ever actually persuaded many people of anything. In order to study how persuasion and influence really work you study history. You study the actual techniques of people in history who were VERY persuasive. They got results on a mass scale. Thats logic. Thats who youll be learning from. I have brought their ideas together to help you be a more hypnotic, persuasive communicator.
I will not be revealing a - 10 maxims to be more persuasive! and Get anyone to do anything you want! (please, get that occult mind control crap out of your head now) garbage. Lots of other losers are selling books on mind control (even though they dont know what that really is!) By the way a tip: dont buy any books on hypnosis that indicate the author is in any way interested, inspired, or drawing from the occult. Dont go there.
To do so you will need to understand people and how various communications actually affect them. By the books end I am sure you will have made great progress in that direction. That is my hope for you. Any book is merely the start of the search, not the end.
This book is the result of deep research into how the mind actually works; by understanding it you will become a better hypnotist, a better hypnotic persuader. A great many people are fascinated by NLP, hypnosis and its applications to influence. Now a lot of what is taught by self-help gurus etc. on this topic is again garbage. It is more effluence than influence. What they teach you wont, cant, doesnt work full stop. It is interesting, very interesting and that is how they get you hooked. BUT THIS BOOK WILL REVEAL THE HIDDEN HYPNOTIC SOCIO-MEDIA SUBTEXT OF MODERN LIFE! Are you ready to learn? GoodSo why do people want to know how to influence others?
- Some people crave power over others. LOSER!
- Some want to use influence technologies to get rich quick, they see the business applications: so really they want to understand marketing/advertising etc. Fair enough.
- Lots of men want to use it to f**k as many women as humanly possible. Well lets be honest boys! A human reaction and desire.
- Some may use it for pedagogical (teaching children) purposes. Be careful.
- Others may wish to use such knowledge to influence the crowd, the great unwashed in order to affect what they see as progress. At least their version of it or what they were conditioned to think it is/was. Think again.
- Cults will use such knowledge to brainwash others to be their mind control slaves. And weirdos. Plenty of those around. Some read my books. You know who you are.
- Therapists may wish to know about it in order to better effect change in clients/patients. Good choice.
- Some want to avoid influence being used AGAINST them. A wise move. That you will get 100% guaranteed. This book will change the way you thought and think about influence: by pointing out facts, techniques.
- Hypnotists want to learn about it to make then MORE POWERFUL hypnotists! This book will do that.
- Some just find it, as I said at the beginning, interesting. Thats great.
Now what is the underlying desire? What is missing? What havent many of these people got that they want? Its not rocket science. These people feel they lack enough control and influence over their lives and others! Lets dispel some myths: learning about hypnosis and NLP, blah, etc. wont make you rich or powerful. I am neither. I am not an incredibly influential person at all. Most of the time I dont even get to decide whats on TV. So with that in mind why are some people very influential and others not? In a word: money. Which is connected to another word: power.
MONEY=POWER=MONEY=POWER ad infinitum.
If you have lots of one, you will have lots of the other. In this culture being rich means (leads to the generally accepted perception) that what you have to say is important. And whats more you have the money to make what YOU want happen. We will go into this in more depth later. I will say this at the beginning I want you to think about this: is persuasion just the art of deception? Is deception a mainstay of human communication?!
