While you can jump in and have a go the very best results are always found from a deeper understanding of the Meditation and Mindfulness process as a whole. (As described throughout this book.)

We live in times of instant gratification, where whatever we need can be had faster and easier than ever before.

Hungry? Go to a vending machine or fast food outlet

Need to know something? The internet has the answer in seconds.

Because of this we have become programmed to look for the quickest route to what we desire, but this isnt always the best route. In taking that shortcut or skipping the journey we often miss a vital part of the experience.

The same is true with meditation.

For many, the temptation with this guide will be to skip straight to the practical chapters and dive right into the physical part of How to Meditate.

There is nothing wrong with this of course. You will still gain a benefit from understanding how to perform correct positions and mindfulness in general but without the surrounding understanding of why you will really only get half of the story.

The aim of this simple guide is to give you the tips and techniques for daily life allowing you to make the most of your mind and body in easy to follow short routines that anyone can do. (Because most of us dont have time to visit a remote retreat or consult a Zen master).

The approach here is one of jargon-free explanation for the everyman/woman because meditation should be for everyone, not an exclusive elite few hidden halfway up a mountain!

While you might ultimately be seeking spiritual Nirvana or ascension to some higher plane of consciousness it is important to start small and focus on developing a realistic approach to relaxation. This book helps you establish a set of easy-to-do, easy-to-maintain and uncomplicated exercises that are perfect for the overstressed office worker, busy mother, exhausted manager or anyone in-between.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to train around the world in Martial Arts but also numerous styles of relaxation and body awareness exercises, including forms of Tai Chi, Meditation and Qi Gong. One thing I have witnessed in all of these is the benefits of regular practice.

We start small though because studies have shown that the real benefits of meditation are found with regularity. A short 2-minute exercise maintained every day is incredibly easy to follow and yields fantastic results. Anything longer or more intense can be too much for the average person to stick to, which is no criticism of the individual, simply an observation on the intensely busy lives we lead in the modern world.

Grabbing a quiet two minutes whenever you can will help focus your mind and regenerate your body.

If you are solely focused on the practical exercises then feel free to skip straight to the sections regarding the 2 minute meditation practice and the principals of relaxation after all this is a guide, not an instruction but I encourage reading the surrounding sections also for a deeper understanding of the principals these exercises are built on.

There are a number of different ideas and techniques to help you find which ones work for you but if you dont want to do the exercises, thats fine too of course, but you will be missing out on a huge part of learning the amazing benefits a small amount of mindfulness can bring.

If you really want to make a change for the better and improve your physical and mental well-being, there is no better way than meditationbut you do have to take action. Unlike many methods, two-minute meditation is quick and effective but you still have to commit to that small amount of time and the actions required.
