Preface
This handbook is addressed to a wide audience of readers: school and college students and their teachers, undergraduate students and professors of universities, engineering and pedagogical institutes. The handbook may be especially helpful for self-education.
The main purpose of the book is to help a reader to find or recollect a necessary information. The handbook envelopes all principal parts of contemporary college courses of physics and mathematics. One can find in it the definitions of fundamental notions and concepts, of physical and mathematical quantities. The handbook contains formulas that express the laws of physics, axioms and theorems of mathematics. There are many examples that help in understanding the material. All information both in physics and mathematics is arranged in a coherent system, so the reader gets additional conveniences, especially in the process of solving problems.
The systematic rather than the alphabetic arrangement of the material, with a lot of examples, makes the handbook similar to a concise textbook. Numerous problems and their solutions constitute an essential part of the book. The most important and sophisticated subjects are usually provided with detailed discussions. This quality of the book gives the reader a definite advantage in training for tests and examinations.
