CONTENTS
Hi.
Firstly, I want to say well done! Youve picked up this book, youve taken it home and you have opened it up to read the first chapter. This is the first and most important step towards leading a healthier lifestyle and Im so glad it was my book that you decided to buy because I guarantee that by the end of it you are going to be in the best shape of your life, both physically and mentally. And the good news is, while it really will change your life, you wont have to make any drastic lifestyle overhauls and youll still be able to enjoy the things you love. Thats the beauty of the Train Wright lifestyle and it is why I cant wait to share it with you.
One thing that I hear a LOT from people who dont know me is this: I bet he spends his life in the gym, never goes out and lives on salads. I have to laugh because the reality is that nothing could be further from the truth. I generally work out about four or five times a week, but its usually from home and for just 30 minutes each time. (Ive recently returned to playing professional football, so my training levels have increased.) I love cooking and eating healthy food, but I cant remember the last time I had a salad and most of all, I NEVER sacrifice my social life. I love ordering a takeaway with Michelle (my wife) on a Saturday night and watching Netflix, or having a pizza and beers with my mates while watching footy at the weekend. Thats what life is all about and any diet or fitness plan that tells you to give these things up is only setting you up to fail. Obviously I dont eat like this every day, but I make sure I practice balance, and that is what this book and the Train Wright Six-week Plan is going to teach you.
Of course, Ive made all the classic mistakes along the way. Depriving yourself of the things you love doesnt work (believe me, Ive tried).
Im not going to pretend Ive always known how to live a well-balanced life, and nowhere in this book will you find me claiming to be the worlds best personal trainer or chef, but what I hope the next few pages will give you is an understanding of how my life, from my upbringing to my career as a footballer and my life in the public eye, has taught me more about health, fitness and diet than most. Its been a hell of a journey but one that I believe can help you to make small changes that will lead to you achieving huge benefits to your life.
Of course, Ive made all the classic mistakes along the way. Depriving yourself of the things you love doesnt work (believe me, Ive tried); thinking you can eat and drink what you want and not see it impact your figure doesnt work (believe me, Ive experienced it); believing that spending money on expensive gym memberships and diet products will give you results will only leave you disappointed (believe me, Ive learnt this too). But Ive always made it my mission in life to learn from my mistakes, and thats whats led me to developing the Train Wright way of life and why I know its the best way to achieve long-term goals. Ive made the mistakes so you no longer have to.
This book isnt going to teach you how to give things up, its going to teach you how to go and get them and then some. I cannot wait for you to join me because I know how amazing you are going to feel as soon as you get started.
Lets do this.
My Journey
I knew I couldnt write a book about finding motivation to live and exercise healthily without sharing my personal story. So much of the way we live our lives is based on the journey weve gone on to get where we are now.
Its so easy for us to go through life without thinking back to each individual experience and how it has shaped us. I noticed that when people ask me about my personality Id often respond with, Ive always been competitive, or Ive always been a driven person, but thats just not true. No one is born competitive or driven. Its only since setting up Train Wright and questioning where my motivation and competitiveness comes from that Ive realised so much of it is based on my experiences in the early years of my life.
