To my family and friends: you have been my change makers and my obstacle removers.

Foreword

A s I was reading this book I was struck by the journey of the author and her ability to not only relate to the pain I have experienced but then take me on a on the path to relief. The body as a whole, broken into parts, and then rebuilt systematically can help anyone stop the automatic patterns that are keeping them from a pain free life. This book will teach you the steps you can take to begin assessing your body so that you too can be proactive in taking care of your health.

is particularly important to pay attention to because it deals with your expectations, and how you manage patience when the pain is very much still present. Learning what the pain is telling you is critical in the process of easing anxiety that can come from not knowing what is going on or what to do to fix it.

closes gaps and gives you a precise roadmap to begin living the life you want. It is a prescription for pain and if used in conjunction with all the other tools in the book and patience and determination you will have a body that begins working for you not against you. The case studies will help motivate you and help keep your faith in the times of slow change.

Julie masterfully weaves the stories of her pain, the journey she took to heal and the case studies that prove her results, with the remedies that will take your physical health to the next level How would it feel to ask your body to accomplish something and know that it will work to do that thing? Run a marathon, compete in obstacle course races, playing tennis or simply getting out of your car and walking through the grocery store without pain. Use this book as a roadmap and a prescription for taking yourself not only out of foot pain but all of your pains.

CHAPTER 1
Foot Pain, Ugh! Can You Relate?

L ets discuss your foot pain. This book will help you get to know whats going on and how it affects you. By understanding your foot pain, you can find the right solution, not a one-size-fits-all approach. How do you reconnect with your body instead of avoiding it? This connection will help you find a solution that works instead of going through just another cover-up operation.

CAN YOU RELATE?
  • Do your feet wake you up at night if you have too much pressure on them or move just wrong? Lack of sleep can interfere with your concentration, how much energy you have, and your mood. Are you grumpy if you dont get enough sleep? I know I am.
  • Do you feel like you hobble around like an old man for what seems like forever? All the while asking yourself, Will it ever go away? What did I do?

Often when people first get onto their feet after sleeping or sitting for a prolonged amount of time, they will hobble or limp until the pain settles down a little bit, but the pain may not totally go away.

  • Do you feel like you are generally healthy? You possibly had a few minor broken bones as a kid, maybe some sprained ankles and pulled muscles over time, but nothing major and nothing that has lasted this long or been as debilitating as your foot pain.
  • Do you find yourself saying, Im worried that this foot pain wont go away and I wont be able to continue doing all of the things I love to do?
  • Do you feel like normally youre pretty good at deducing problems, just not this time?
  • Youve tried insoles and specialty shoes, but they dont workor at least not long term.
  • Youve tried resting for several days between workouts or runs, and just when you think it worked, the pain comes back.
  • Have you googled how to solve this foot pain and tried everything recommended?
  • You now own every foot massage tool known to man and every foot soak availableoh, and all of those ice and heat packs, too.

Temporary relief is the common theme here when you think about it.

  • Do you find yourself saying, Just when I think something is working and I can go back to running, I get only a few steps in and I have a hot poker in my foot again?
  • You have read several books and e-books about the causes of foot pain. Some of it you can relate to, but other things seem to have nothing to do with what is going on with your foot.
  • Have you listened to several podcasts and researched all sorts of diagnoses for foot pain?
  • Do you feel like sometimes they know exactly what youre going throughthey have all the symptoms spot onbut then they talk about their solution and its something you have already tried or something way off the wall?
  • Meditating and manifesting a solution hasnt helped either.
  • Have other people suggested that you do what they have done and get the surgery or injections?

That all sounds unnecessarily painful and gives you the creeps. I dont like the idea of having a needle near my foot, or a knife for that matterdo you?

  • Are you willing to try just about anything?
  • Would you like to find an alternative to all this but just dont know where else to look or what else to try?

I worked with a woman who was in the same boat, without many resources at her disposal.

I saw this homeless woman walking up and down the street where I had my first office. Every once in a while, she would come into the office and inquire about the price of a treatment, or just look around for a price list. This happened over the course of six months. At the end of that time, she came in and said that she would like to book a treatment. She had collected and saved enough money so that she could get her treatment. She was excited about it. All she talked about was how she had seen so many people looking like they were in pain or limping when they went into my office and came out happier and walking easier. It shocked me that she paid attention to my clients and made me a little worried.
