The first step to dealing with pain is understanding what is causing it. The anatomy of the human back is extensive and complicated. How well do you know your back?
While your spine is the major collection of bones in your back, there are also discs, joints, nerves, muscles, and ligaments. Any or several could be the cause of your pain.
Back Pain Relief and Healing with Solutions Made Clear will help you understand your back and give you a clearer understanding of what may be at the root of your pain. If you are better able to understand what is causing your pain, you can better explain it to your Medical Practitioner.
When your Medical Practitioner has a better understanding of the pain you are experiencing and what may be causing it, they will be better able to select which testing methods and procedures are most likely to be the cause of the pain, thus helping to select which treatment approach would be best for your symptoms.
Sometimes, multiple tests and procedures are needed to determine what is causing your pain. Back Pain Relief and Healing with Solutions Made Clear, will explain to you why these tests are needed, what they entail and what some of their limitations are.
You will also learn about the many options available to sufferers of back pain when it comes to getting relief from or learning to deal with back pain. We will also provide you with some tips you can employ in your daily life to ease the pain.

Introduction
Back pain is a very common ailment accounting for one of the main reasons for absence from work and seeking medical advice. Back pain can exist for a variety of reasons and is more likely to occur as we age. The human back is a complex mechanism consisting of muscles, ligaments, tendons, discs, and bones. All of these individual parts work together to allow us to move, but when one part becomes damaged, it affects the entire mechanism and leads to back pain (McIntosh, 2017).
Symptoms of Back Problems
Pain is the most common symptom of back issues. The only problem is it can occur anywhere in the back, neck, buttocks, and even down your legs. If it is nerve damage originating in the back, the pain can occur anywhere in the body. This is one of the reasons why diagnosing the issue is often difficult. Pain will often go away with rest and time. However, there are times you should go see a Medical Practitioner (McIntosh, 2017).
When to See a Medical Practitioner
According to McIntosh (2017), you should see a Medical Practitioner if any of the following accompany your back pain:
Weight loss
Fever
Persistent back pain, where lying down or resting does not help
Pain down the legs
Urinary incontinence
Fecal incontinence, or loss of control over bowel movements
Numbness around the genitals
Numbness around the anus
Numbness around the buttocks

Chapter 1: Structure and Function of the Spine
In order to understand your back pain, you must first understand your back. Your spine or backbone is your bodys main support structure. It consists of many individual parts working together to enable you to sit, stand, walk, bend, and twist. The following is an overview of those parts and what function each is involved in as described by The Cleveland Clinic (Spine Structure & Function, 2015).
Vertebrae
The human spine consists of thirty-three smaller bones stacked to form the spinal canal. Inside this canal are the spinal cord and nerves. The vertebrae serve two purposes, to protect the spinal cord and nerves and to allow for a range of motion. The vertebrae are able to move because of the facet joints (Spine Structure & Function, 2015).
Facet Joints
Facet joints have a slippery connective tissue known as cartilage that allows them to move against one another. This allows for the spines flexibility and stability, allowing you to twist and turn. Your cervical joints, just below your skull, and your lumbar facet joints between your waist and hips have the most range of motion (Spine Structure & Function, 2015).
