Richard Hall

After Balliol College, Oxford, Richards early career was in learning and practising marketing with blue chip FMCG companies like Reckitts and RHM Foods. A lengthy spell in advertising followed, with leading roles in French Gold and Abbott, FCO and Havas. In the latter part of his career Richard was asked to act as non-executive chairman in several marketing services companies and two charities, was a co-founder of a consultancy start-up and, finally, has written a raft of business books published in over 20 countries. He has also created a mentoring business which flourishes. Retirement? As Confucius said, Choose work that you love and you wont have to work another day. Richard has and he doesnt. The work he does is much too much fun.

Review of the potential for starting a new business and the enterprise zeitgeist

We live in exciting times. There has never been so much uncertainty. But equally there have never been so many opportunities. What we are witnessing is an explosive growth in the desire for independence. This makes things tough for the big corporations. Stephanie Atkinson, HR Director of Kelloggs European Functions, described a graduate intern who was very talented and doing well. After a year, to everyones disappointment, she resigned. Why? they asked, imploring her to stay. She said she loved the company, its culture and all the people she worked with; however, shed learnt a lot but needed to move on and learn more and different things.
