Introduction Fired From My Dream Job The only feeling worse than being fired - photo 3
Introduction
Fired From My Dream Job

The only feeling worse than being fired is being turned down for a job because you're overqualified. Time after time, youre left feeling rejected, all the while knowing that you deserve better.

When I was searching for my dream job, I went into every interview, presenting myself as confident, energetic, and prepared. I knew that no one would want to hire a desperate job seeker, so I put on a smile and walked in as if I didnt need the job.

After every interview, they would tell me that I did great and that I would be hearing from them soon. But I knew that, unless they told me they were going to offer me the job during the interview, I would not be hearing from them.

I remember coming home to see my family looking at me, waiting to hear how that interview went. It was a struggle to keep all of the frustration and pain inside of me and show them a strong front so that they wouldnt worry.

Month after month, this continued. Then, the next-level fear really started to sink in. This was the worst fear of all the fear of letting down my family. They depended on me, and without me, my kids would be lost.

I felt useless, and we had to live off of my wifes income and savings alone. She said all of the right things, assured me that we would get through this, and supported me at every turn. But each night in my prayers, I asked God for reassurance, and I wondered how long we could endure this.

My job search was not just for me; it was for all of us. I used to dream of sending the kids to private school or taking a family vacation on a Disney cruise. But now, my goal was to land a job in the next ninety days so that our family could get back to normal living to not have to keep saying NO when my kids asked for little things they wanted at the store.

Every day, I felt the disappointment and stress of another day without work, and I was tired of trying to stretch that last dollar just a little bit longer. Coming home with disappointing news every day was taking its toll on all of us. When I saw my in-laws and family over the holidays, I cringed every time they asked me how the job search was going. It was even worse when they asked if I needed to borrow money.

I was facing so many mounting factors against me, and it seemed like they were accumulating with every day of unemployment. I was facing age discrimination, as the jobs seemed to go to younger Eager Beavers. I was facing a multi-month gap in my resume, which was sure to leave employers wondering what must be wrong with me. I had worked in one company for over ten years and hadnt really learned anything new. Worst of all, I began doubted myself for not having been more proactive in my career 20 years earlier when I could see the internet emerging.

I tell you my back story because you might be wondering if this book is worth reading. But if the strategies in this book worked for me, they will work for you. It is not by accident that you are reading this today. You are about to go down a path, and its one that Ive been down, as well. This path will lead you to your dream job, and it is much easier to travel this path when you have a guide who knows the steps.

Once I turned my life around and found my dream job, people started asking me how I did it. I would tell them my story over a coffee, and they would take my advice. Not long after, they would come back, thanking me for sharing these strategies with them. Then, they would tell their friends, and it got to the point where I was meeting people for coffee two to three times a week to help them with their job search. I never turned down the opportunity to help someone because I know what it feels like to be alone in your job search.

After telling this story and sharing the unique strategies that worked for me with dozens of people, someone suggested that I write a book. And here it is. This book is my story of how I landed my dream job, and its the story of how you can land yours.

I remember the first time I helped someone get back to work. It felt amazing, and my hope in writing this book is to help you in your job search. Maybe you will land an interview in a week, maybe you will land lots of interviews when before you had none, or better yet, maybe you will finally land the job!

Each chapter is written as if I were speaking to the past version of myself. He is in the situation that you are likely in, and he has the mindset of someone who is feeling defeated. If you, too, have that mindset, you are in the right place!

This is the information that I wish Id had when I was struggling to hold it together and fighting for interviews. I had to learn every lesson in this book the hard way, through trial and error. That is why I experienced so many months of failure during my job search.

What youre going to learn over the next few pages took me months of heartache, blood, sweat, and stress. Those months of struggle were a time of turmoil, not just for me but also for my family. But when I put all of the pieces together and knew the right things to do and say, my job search became easier.

I'm going to share with you all of the skills that have worked for me. These aren't the only skills that are out there, but they're the ones that I have found to be the most successful.

Landing a job is a learned skill. No one is born with this it, and some people never develop it. Some people are naturally better at this skill than others, but Job Search Success is a skill that anyone can learn if they put in the time and effort. By applying the techniques presented in this book, you will be light years ahead of the competition, even if they may seem more naturally gifted than you are.
