Acknowledgments

I would like to begin by thanking my amazing husband, Todd. He was just as crucial to completing this book as I was, from listening to my spontaneous brainstorming sessions to giving me pep talks when I got discouraged to keeping our toddler entertained so I could write. You are everything Ive ever wanted in a lifelong partner.

Second, Id like to thank the entire team I had the privilege of working with at ARCOS for almost nine years. Working at a quickly growing start-up, with such innovative leaders, allowed me to gain practical experience that helped shape my leadership style. The year over year growth taught me how to scale teams through exponential change and pushed me to develop as a leader and continuously strive for next-level results while maintaining a positive culture. I cannot name everyone, but Id like to acknowledge Bill Brackett. His leadership approach was that of a player-coach because he taught me how to handle circumstances and explained the why so that I could make strategic decisions on my own. We accomplished a lot as a team. He prepared me for the professional acceleration I experienced. Thank you, Bill, for teaching me how to be more succinct, for pushing me to reach seemingly unachievable objectives, and for genuinely caring about my well-being.

Occasionally you get the opportunity to work with someone who profoundly influences you both professionally and personally. Ross Fuller, my mentor/coach, deserves special recognition. I had no idea I would end up telling you about my life story in the middle of a business trip when we traveled to the Iowa office to discuss our departments growth strategy. You were probably one of the first people to help me see the correlation between my life experiences and my leadership growth opportunities. You taught me to allow work to get done through me and not by me via the power of trust. Thank you for always asking me tough questions and then holding me accountable for the answers.

I am also thankful to my VISTAGE Leadership Group for allowing me to use the group as a personal learning laboratory. What an incredible joy it is to meet six times a year with individuals who are genuinely interested in ideas, who give constructive feedback on any topic, initiative, or technique that comes before them, and who are constantly willing to try out new principles and ideas.

A special thanks to our VISTAGE chair, Perry Maughmer. You push me to reach my full potential and challenge me to challenge myself. I appreciate your honesty and transparency. Your love for books and willingness to share titles that have helped you elevate your leadership inspired me to read some of those same books and be enlightened. Thank you for partnering me with Brian ORiadon as my mentor. I feel you put thought into who you assigned to me. My time with Brian was invaluable and encouraged me to audition and land my first TEDx talk. Thank you, Brian, for giving me the hourglass and the book,
