Author Notes

Throughout my careerand life, Ive met several people. Some of these include top marketers, highranking salespeople, and influential motivational speakers. So, having met manyinfluential and powerful speakers in my life, I couldnt help but ask myselfthese few questions. What is the secret behind their success? What is it thatthey are doing differently? Before we begin this book, I would like to sharewith you the psychology of highly successful speakers.

Based on myexperiences, Ive noticed that there are 3 types of speakers.

The first type ofspeaker is what I call the reactive speaker. They are the ones who only talkwhen other people approach them. Other than that, they do not speak up. They donot express their thoughts, opinions and feelings. They are what we call aquiet and introverted kind of person.

The second type ofspeaker is what I call the clueless speaker. They are the ones who do notunderstand what the conversation is about and is always clueless. I am notjoking. There are always inattentive people. People who do not listen and onlyspeak what they would like to speak.

The third type ofspeaker is the proactive speaker. They are the ones who break free ofawkwardness in a conversation and the core of conversations. People like themfind it easy to linger amongst different cliques. They are great listeners andgreat speakers.

So, who do youthink has a higher chance of being a better speaker? The answer is obviouslythe proactive speaker. I want to impress upon you that this is just a reflectionof life. There are people who are proactive, and they seek to learn. Thentheres the reactive, who wait for things to happen. And finally, the cluelesswho simply do not do anything. Do we have an agreement that youll have themindset of a proactive speaker while reading this book and actively seek forways to get the most out of it?

If so, lets getstarted right away!

INTRODUCTION

Please Note:Please read through the Author Notes before proceeding!

Humans aresocial beings and most of our life depends on communication with other people. Itcould be from a simple purchase from a store to business meetings. One of themost prominent characteristics of all successful people is that they aresociable and easy going. And even though you might not feel like this is true, being sociable is something that everyone can practice and learn.

Whatspreventing most people from being truly sociable is a heightened self- awarenessand shyness. In a room full of people, the first thing that comes to a shypersons mind is, Who would like to talk to me, Im not interesting at all.Of course, this is not the truth. The first obstacle that you have to overcomein becoming more sociable, is to overcome your shyness, which we will discussin the next chapter.

The secondbiggest problem that most people have is that they do not know how to engage ina successful conversation with somebody that theyve just met. This book willgive you several general tips on how to make yourself look more approachable, beforeit moves on to more advanced strategies to initiate conversations in differentsocial situations.

Chapter1: The 5 Essential Tips to Initiate a Talk

Tip 1: Dont FeelInsecure and Shy

The easieststep to achieve this is by knowing that youre in complete control of thesituation. This can be attained by having a plan on how to initiate aconversation with someone you dont know. Or by having a pleasant talk with thepeople that you already know. Think about things this way- in a room full ofstrangers, chances are that most of them are feeling even more self- aware andshy than you are.

Therefore, dont feel insecure and shy. If your insecurity and shyness are reallyunavoidable, try to look cool, outgoing, and confident. Have you ever seen apick- up artist who is shy and insecure? Hell no! Alphas and players who arethe masters of conversations always look confident and feel good aboutthemselves.

Tip 2: LookApproachable to Other People

Your bodylanguage plays an important role in how other people respond to you in aconversation. Chances are youll be more successful if you smile, not keep yourarms crossed and maintain a good posture. This way, youll give out a sense ofinner security. And besides, everybody prefers people with cheery attitudes. Ofcourse, according to the situation youre in, youll need to adjust yourattitude. You wont be smiling the same if youre at a party and if youre at abusiness meeting.

Heres astatistics. In a study of about 7,000 individuals in United States, 87% saidthat smiling is the friendliest thing that a stranger could do when meetingthem for the first time! Lets be honest, it really isnt that shocking, is it?So before you put on a straight face next time, remember the huge difference asimple smile could do for your date!

Tip 3: Be Polite

This shouldgo without a saying, but you also need to be aware that every social situationdemands a different approach. In a business situation you should alwaysintroduce yourself and shake hands. In less formal situations you can foregosome of these rules, but never to the level where youll be considered rude andinterruptive. We all have that immature part of us. However, show the nice andgood part of you for a first impression.

Did you knowthat a person forms an impression of you after 4 seconds? And finalizes whatyou are within 30 seconds? Not only that, a first impression stays within aperson for a considerably long amount of time before you could change it!Thats why first impression really matters.
