How to Find a Profitable Blog Topic Idea

Some people blog to express their thoughts, while others blog to generate online income. No matter why you choose to blog, its important to have a strategy in place before getting started.

The truth is, you shouldnt expect to succeed if you just write about whatever you like without any kind of strategy. As with any business, you need a plan for how youll make money. Your first step is to pick a blog niche .

A niche is simply the topic of your website. Rather than writing about everything, your goal is to focus on one subject and create in-depth content that readers love. This is how you build a long-term audience.

Its not easy to find the right blog niche. You need to locate a market where you enjoy the topic, but you also have to make sure its profitable.

This report will show you how to do both.

Who Am I?

Why am I qualified to write a book on finding a blog niche?

I have two answers to this question.

First, since January 2010 Ive run a blog that has generated a total of 365,284 visitors .

Through this blog I have been able to launch a successful Kindle business that has become a major part of my online income.

Secondly, I made a major mistake when I first started this blog, and this error cost me two years of productivity and profitability. Instead of focusing on a single subject, I basically wrote about a variety of subjects. This is a mistake that I hope you will avoid by reading this report.

I wont lie to youblogging isnt easy. Often it takes a few years before youll see a significant amount of income. My goal with this report (and the other titles in my Better Blog Booklet series) is to help you shortcut this process.

Not only will you get a step-by-step plan for finding a great blog idea, youll also learn how to take that first step towards building a lasting Internet business .

Heres just a brief overview of what will be covered:

Youre going to learn a lot about how to find a great blog niche.

So lets get to it.

How to Become an Authority (Even When Youre Not)

Demonstrating authority is an important ingredient to running a successful blog. People will only visit your site if youre providing helpful, in-depth information. Thats why its important to be an expert on your topic.

Authority is a scary concept for any potential blogger. It can be intimidating when you dont have a wide range of knowledge on a particular subject. But authority can be shown in a variety of ways. In fact, you can do it by showing one of the 3 Bs of authority.

#1: Be an Authority :

You have a detailed understanding of a niche and can draw from years of personal experience. You dont just talk about a subjectyou live it on a daily basis.

EXAMPLE:

One of my favorite make money online blogs is Smart Passive Income run by Pat Flynn.

Pat is a classic example of an authority. Hes had years of experience building profitable websites in a variety of niches outside of the make money online market. Pat is an authority because his content comes from the specific strategies hes applied to his business.

#2: Borrow Authority:

Youre not a complete authority on a topic, but you know how to find others who are. You demonstrate authority by interviewing these experts and getting them to reveal their secrets.

EXAMPLE:

Jaime Tardy has a blog called Eventual Millionaire .

She has built an amazing brand that includes in-depth interviews with over 80 millionaires. From there, Jaime has distilled this knowledge into a series of lessons that followers can immediately apply to their businesses. Jamie is an authority because she has borrowed the expertise of others to build her personal brand.

#3: Build Authority:

You dont have a lot of initial authority. Instead, you have passion for a topic and a willingness to test different things. You build authority by reporting the lessons youve learned and talking about the breakthroughs youve achieved.

EXAMPLE:

Tom Ewer has a blog called Leaving Work Behind .

Tom started this blog with the desire to leave his job and build a sustainable Internet business. In the last year and a half, he has chronicled his journeyincluding the good and bad things that happened along the way. Tom is an authority because he has shown what it takes to start a business from scratch.

What Kind of Blog Do You Want?

All three of these bloggers talk about building businesses and making money. Yet they each do so in a unique way. I included these examples to show the different things that can be done with a single blog topic.

My point is simple: Dont worry if youre not an authority on a topic. You can borrow authority from others or build it along the way. The important thing is to have passion and a desire to create great content.

Do You Need Passion to Run a Blog?

There is a lot of debate on the topic of passion when it comes to blog niches. Do you need to love a market to become successful? Or can you fake an interest?
