Chapter 1: How To Start A Blog
B logging is much more than simply just writing. There is a lot that goes into the making of a successful blog. Blog design, platform, sharing all of these are factors you need to keep in mind while creating your blog. Now that youve decided to run a blog let us help you with a definitive guide on how to create a blog. The following steps are absolutely prudent for anyone who wants to start a blog:
Step 1: Decide what you want to blog about
Are you going to run a blog on feminism? Or will you focus on recipes? Is it a DIY fashion blog that you want to be known for? In any case, before you start putting your articles and your blog posts out there on the internet for everyone to see, it is important that you have a clear idea of what you are going to blog about.
Your writing should be different and inspired, so it needs to be about something that you are passionate about. Unless you are passionate about what youre writing and know a fair deal about it, you will find it difficult to keep the blog going. So, first things first-know the central theme of your blog. Itll help you envision your blog structure much better.
Step 2: Pick your blogging platform
This is where you actually get started. Now is the part where you choose where you want to build your blog. I would suggest that you go for Word Press-it is one of the biggest and popular platforms for blogging. Word Press allows for multiple plugins, offers a variety of themes and layout choices. Word Press is really easy to set-up, which is why we suggest that you pick Word Press as your platform. Word Press currently has about 82 million users-we dont need to tell you that its a huge number now, do we?
However, there are a few more alternatives that you may pick. These include, but are not restricted to:
Blogger
This is one of the earliest blogging platforms and is really easy to set up as well. It is best suited for lifestyle bloggers or first-time bloggers, not the ideal choice for full-fledged websites or business related blogs.
Tumbler
This is a microblogging site that works like a mix between a social networking site and a blogging platform. Increasingly fun allows for a lot of interaction and is really simple to use. With Yahoo having bought it recently, ads might be in the near future, but other than that, there arent a lot of cons. This is the best option if you are catering to the youth, are not looking to run a very serious blog. Not ideal for long articles or long-term blogging.
Medium
Medium is fairly new, only having been started recently in 2012. This site has a great layout, allows for good interaction and is regarded as one of the top blogging platforms at the moment. The only major drawback is the lack of customization, but that aside, the platform is minimalistic and efficient.
