I dedicate this book to my firstborn son, Adler. Adler was born with a congenital heart condition that took him from this world at three weeks old. His passing impacted my husband and I greatly and instilled in our hearts a desire to live each day doing what we love while making a difference; life is too short and precious to live any other way.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
I have been working with essential oils for the past 12 years, and most of my experience has been as intimate as you can get. A decade ago, I decided I wasnt happy with the essential oil choices that were available on the market. Organic essential oils were hard to find, and it was important to me to be able to work with the purest, most sustainable oils I could get my hands on. This prompted me to begin distilling my own at home via steam distillation. The process of making my own essential oils (using plants I grew on my farm) guaranteed I was getting top quality, organic oils that were created sustainably.
Today, the popularity of essential oils, as well as a heightened public awareness of the importance of sustainability, has opened the door for more manufacturers to offer organic essential oils. This is great news for those interested in oil quality in addition to taking care of our vulnerable environment!
This book highlights the importance of mindfulness when it comes to choosing essential oils. You will be able to dive deeper into what separates organic farming practices from mainstream practices. As a result, you will learn that choosing organic means so much more than most people realize. It means choosing to support farmers who go the extra mile to ensure the environment is not harmed. It also means choosing a high-quality product for yourself and your family that contains fewer chemicals.
This book was designed to help you choose the best organic essential oils. It provides detailed information about the top 10 best essential oils, as well as 40 more oils you can use to help you live your best, and healthiest, life. You will learn how to use these oils, where you can purchase them, and so much more. The 150 different recipes in this book range from help for physical ailments to practical uses around the house.
It is my hope that after reading this book, you will feel more empowered and inspired when purchasing and using organic essential oils.
When it comes to finding credible information on organic essential oils, you may have noticed a glaring lack of resources available. The purpose of this book is to provide information on organic aromatherapy, as well as the many benefits organic essential oils can provide. Part 1 addresses how essential oils are made, why buying organic oils is the best choice, and tools you need to work with oils, along with detailed profiles on 50 amazing essential oils you can use in a variety of ways.
Most people have heard of essential oils but may not be familiar with how they are created, how they work, and how they are used. There is plenty of information when it comes to these topicsthe problem is that theres too much. These days, we can perform a quick internet search and be inundated with a barrage of facts from various sources. At best, this can be overwhelmingat worst, deceptive or dangerous. In this chapter, Ill provide some clarity on what essential oils can do, how theyre produced, and why its so important to go organic.
INTRODUCING ORGANIC AROMATHERAPY
Essential oils are the aromatic compounds produced in plants that give them their unique scents, assist in pollination, and even work to naturally protect plants. When these volatile compounds are inhaled, they can play an important role in boosting the bodys natural healing abilities. Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils to enrich our physical and mental well-being.
The actual term aromatherapy was not coined until 1937, but historians have discovered evidence that many ancient civilizations also practiced aromatherapy. Egyptians extracted plant oils for use during the mummification process, and the Greek physician Hippocrates discussed using aromatherapy in healing as early as 400 BCE. Burning aromatic plants to create incense is an ancient practice that has been well-documented in many different cultures.
