different shapes, sizes, and
colors. All insect bodies have
three parts, however. Insects
have a head at one end, a
middle part called a thorax ,
and a part at the other end
called an abdomen . The
head has two antennae , or
feelers, on top. The thorax
has six legs attached to it.
Most insects have four wings,
which are also attached to
the thorax.

nest. Young insects
become workers for
the colony. Ants, bees,

are all social insects.

Like all insects, a social insect starts its life as an egg.
The egg hatches as larva . As it grows, it changes into
a pupa . Finally, it grows into an adult. The body
changes completely at each stage of development.
