The Piano uses a Grand Staff. To read music on the Piano you must be able to read both the Treble Clef and the Bass Clef. Kinds Of Musical Notes Sharps, Flats And Naturals A Sharp raises the sound of a tone. A Flat lowers the sound of a tone. A Natural means the tone is neither sharp nor flat.
A Double Sharp ( also written as ) raises the sound of a tone twice. A Double Flat lowers the sound of a tone twice The Musical Alphabet: A B C D E F G The Musical Alphabet Musical notes have names that use only 7 letters of the alphabet - The Musical Alphabet: A B C D E F G In the Treble Clef the note A is on the 2nd space:In the Bass Clef the note A is on the 1st space: If you want to learn all the names of the notes in music easily, memorize that in the Treble Clef A is on the 2nd space. But in the Bass Clef, A is on the 1st space. Since A is on the 2nd space in the Treble Clef, notes written above A are in alphabetical order: Notes that are written below A on the 2nd space are still alphabetical but in order to find them you have to think the alphabet in reverse or backwards: ITS SIMPLE: Going up, think the Alphabet: A B C D E F G Going down, think the Alphabet backwards: G F E D C B A It is the same for the Bass Clef except that the note A is on the 1st space. To find these notes on the Piano, notice that all the black keys are grouped as 2 black, 3 black, 2 black, 3 black, 2 black, 3 black, etc. The note C is ALWAYS the first white key just before the 2 black keys.
