INTRODUCTION
BY THE TIME YOU READ Yachtmaster for Sail and Power you will probably already have joined the ever growing number of enthusiasts who find pleasure in cruising Europe in leisure craft, both power and sail. You may be working through the RYA Yachtmaster training scheme or just wishing to learn more about navigation and seamanship, but whatever your aim, I hope you find what you are looking for in this book.
You are obviously wise enough to realise that it is not prudent to place blind faith in all the superb electronic equipment available, without a basic understanding of seamanship, meteorology and navigation. The RYA/DoT Yachtmaster syllabus covers all the subjects that are needed for safe, sensible cruising using a combination of electronic and traditional methods in harmony, and they have all been included in the book.
The subjects are arranged in a logical sequence and to make them as understandable as possible many illustrations have been used to clarify the text. A full copy of the collision regulations has been included so that those studying for the Yachtmaster Offshore exam do not have to buy an additional book.
Happy learning and good cruising.
