Every photographers journey to success is a different one. Yours will not be the same as mine just as mine was not the same as many photographers that I look up to and who inspire me. But one thing all our journeys have in common is that there are always people who help us, who inspire us and who never let us give up. Rather, they insist we do better and stick to it. I am grateful to the many friends, associates, editors and fellow photographers who have helped me become the photographer I am today.
First and foremost I want to thank you, the reader and the many, many, aspiring photographers who watch my lessons on the internet and use my courses. It is my greatest hope that I can help you achieve your goals as a photographer and I thank you so much for your support and your interaction which not only makes me a better photographer, but a better teacher. Thank you to my many friends and supporters, without whom, none of this would be possible.
I must especially thank my friends and staff who work tirelessly to help me in my mission to teach photographers the skills for success everywhere. Kelvin, Christian, Bowie, Jim and Amelie, I am extremely grateful for your hard work and friendship. I also want to thank Dare for helping me write and edit this book, merci mon ami!
To my editors and publishers at Yellow Korner, I thank you for all that you do in seeing to it that my photographs are reproduced at the highest quality and reach the broadest possible audience. Your assistance, partnership and friendship are always a blessing in my life.
To my mentor Scott Kelby, I thank you for your guidance, kindness and sharing so freely the techniques which have enabled me to become the photographer I am today.
And to my wife and children who always have been and will always be the inspiration of my life. I love you and thank you for being there every step of the way with me. Through the rough times you stood by my side and urged me to pursue my dream despite all odds, and through the good times you never let me become complacent and pushed me to do better. I love you now and always.

How to read this book
Bonjour madams and monsieurs! Thank you so much for buying this book! Right from the get go I want you to know what to expect from this book, why its different and how I recommend you read it.
Deciding what to learn
Whenever I am teaching someone, the first thing I ask them is: Why do you want to learn this? Is it to take better photos for your family? To become a top-selling pro photographer? To be able to create museum quality fine art prints? Whatever it is, ensure that you have thought about it, that way when you are learning you can focus on the things that help you reach your goals and disregard the rest. It makes for faster learning.
This book is designed to take you through Lightroom from one end to the other as rapidly as possible and give you the skills you need to become technically expert at Lightroom. Its best read from beginning to end, even if you think you know it already, a quick glance over the pages will tell you if there is something that might still help you.
This book is an action based book . I have found in the last two decades that trying to teach someone photography with a bunch of theory is boring and self-defeating. People dont want to spend hours learning the minutia of every button and phrase, we want to push those buttons, take those photos, make MAGIC!!! And photography is one of those subjects where a little theory and a lot of doing makes the best learning combo. So pretty much everything I teach you in this book, I want you to follow along with me using the photos I have included for you to practice on, or your own. Dont try to read it from cover to cover without doing the projects, I promise you it will not be as fun as learning through the projects!
This is a low-fat, gluten-free book. As a working fine art photographer, Im blessed to be selling my prints in galleries all over the world, and thats what I want to share with you. The skills that will help you get there. As part of this, Ive only included what I use, the crucial skills of Lightroom you must know if you want to succeed.
Already good at Lightroom?
If you are already highly proficient on Lightroom, then more than likely you will be most interested in the projects section of the book and those chapters covering the new developments in Lightroom 6/CC 2015.
But just beyond Lightroom, I wanted this to be a great reference book for photographers of any skill level, I also wanted it to be a book that could be given as a valuable gift to help even the most novice photographer take their photography to the next level and have written it as best I can to cater to all possible skill levels.
Also, if youve been around photography for a bit, youll find that specialized words get thrown around a lot and part of being a professional is understanding the lingo. So to help you on this Ive included a glossary of terms at the back for rapid reference and I will also define words that I use immediately in the text and they will be called out using this style.
You can be great!
No matter how uncertain or unskilled you are now, I know you can be a great photographer. And dont let anyone tell you otherwise, there has never been a better time to be a photographer, the demand for professional photos is at an all time high. But heres the catch: there are more photographers and cameras out there than ever before, so being just good isnt good enough. You need to be really good, even great to stand out above the rest and have a line of people knocking at your door for you to take photographs for them!
So waste no time! Run, dont walk, to the next page and lets get going!
Where to find your files
Have you ever bought a book that had files that came with it and the only place you could find where it said the files were was at the back in some obscure section of the appendix and you were like Why do zey do zat!!!!!! Well maybe not with a French accent, but still!
