Acknowledgments
Thanks have to go out to Dutchie and Chip Caray for being so gracious with their time and candid with their remarks in the midst of a tumultuous time in their lives. Thanks to Marty Cohn for his help on the project. More thanks must be given to the Chicago Cubs' front office staff and players for organizing their memories of Harry Caray. And thank you to everyone who shared their anecdotes.
Particular credit must be given to Hall of Famer Jack Brickhouse for authoring the foreword to this book. Brickhouse was recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumor and had a hoarse voice from a tube that had been placed in his throat during hospitalization. A pro's pro, just like Harry Caray, Brickhouse still was able to dictate the foreword in the great ad-libbed fashion that made him a Chicago broadcast legend. The stamina, endurance and positive attitudes that marked both Brickhouse and Caray are rarely duplicated anywhere else.
Yeoman's duties were performed by Craig DeVrieze. He spent many hours slaving away, transcribing many of the interviews from tape.
The editing of the manuscript couldn't have been accomplished without the computer skills of Laura Elizabeth Castle. Her old man is used to employing a 1980s vintage laptop computer. He had to wave in Laura from the bullpen. She's a maestro on the keyboard, moving files around like chess pieces. Welcome to the publishing business, Laura!
Thank you to Dreaming Dog Agency, as well as Peter Bannon, Mike Pearson, Susan McKinney, Joe Buck, Dave Kasel, Bret Kroencke and Amanda Romine from Sports Publishing Inc.
