ESSENTIAL ENGLISH WORDS Essential English Words contains 1000 of the most commonly used words in English, as well as their inflections and word families, to help learners become natural, fluent users of the language. Each word is listed with its parts of speech, pronunciation, inflections, and meanings. parts of speech are given in their full forms for clarity. pronunciations are given in IPA and in a spelled-out guide, to ensure learners feel confident when speaking. inflections are given explicitly for all words. Pronunciation This book includes prounciation guides in the international phonetic alphabet (IPA)and a specially commissioned, crystal-clear, spelled-out pronunciation guide. This is a syllable-based spelling pronunciation. This means that the pronunciation of the word stays as close to the original spelling of the word as is usefully possible and uses the conventions of English spelling to provide an easy-to-understand guide. Our words often have more than one syllable, with one syllable in each word more prominent than others.
