Acknowledgments
If anyone had told me, years ago, Id write a book about money, I would have considered them crazy. And in truth, the fact that I did write such a book is nothing short of a miracle. But this miracle could not have happened without the help and encouragement of so many wonderful people. Writing this book was a labor of love, and in many ways, a team effort. To everyone on my team, a personal thank you.
To Laurel Cook, who nudged me over my writers block by gently suggesting I pretend Im writing her a letter. The first two chapters began as letters to Laurel;
To Carol Adrienne, a dear friend who deftly guided me through the proposal and very first draft with unbridled enthusiasm;
To Doris Ober, who was right there, every page of the way, with her skillful editing, astute comments, and indispensable encouragement;
To Theo Gund, who believed in this project with such intensity, I can never thank her enough;
To Candice Fuhrman, a superb agent (and delightful person) who made it happen;
To Mindy Werner and Beena Kamlani, my editors at Viking, who were so professional, so right-on and such fun to work with, I am a bit sad the writing is done;
To Tracy Gary, a remarkable role model, tireless mentor, and genuinely supportive friend, whose impact on me personally made this book possible;
To my parents, Richard and Annette Bloch, who lovingly and enthusiastically support me, even after they read the first chapter;
To Cal, who not only gave me the benefit of his wisdom and expertise, but also kept me balanced throughout the process;
And to all the women I interviewed, who were amazingly generous with their time and surprisingly candid about a subject rarely discussed so openly. These women were my teachers. To them I am forever indebted.

Preface to the Revised Edition
Then
A decade has passed since Prince Charming Isnt Coming: How Women Get Smart About Money was first published. And what a decade its been. I never expected so many women would tell me how this book changed their life. But truthfully, Im even more amazed by how dramatically, and quickly, it changed mine.
Up until the fall of 1997, Id been a newly married freelance journalist, intent on getting out of my financial fog by interviewing smart women and following in their footsteps. But when this book hit the shelves, I hit the road, thrust into a whole new career. Suddenly I was an author and motivational speaker, going from city to city, giving keynote speeches, media interviews, and workshops to educate and empower women about money. I felt like a female Paul Revere, galloping across the country, hell-bent on waking women up from their financial stupor.
Never, in all my life, did I envision this would be the path Id travel. Nor did I expect how often women who read my book would say, I felt like you were talking specifically to me.
I had clearly struck a chord, and my timing was impeccable.
Prince Charming Isnt Coming appeared on the cusp of a revolution in womens relationship to money. The financial industry was just beginning to recognize women as an untapped, highly lucrative market. And women were starting to realize that money was something they needed to master. It was finally dawning on themmany of whom were staying single longerthat Prince Charming may never come. And even if he did, Prince Charmings leave, Prince Charmings die, Prince Charmings arent always great money managers. You could almost hear the sound of denial being shattered as women were awakening to the call for action.
