The Early Years
  1. The idea of forming BTS came around in 2010 when CEO of Big Hit Entertainment , Bang Si-hyuk, met with RM and was impressed by his rapping ability.
  2. Before auditions for the band were held in 2010, two people were confirmed as members: one was RM, but the other was another rapper named Jung Hun-cheol, better known as Iron . Iron left the group shortly after this announcement so was never part of the official BTS.
  3. Although originally intended to be a hip-hop group, it was decided that BTS should aim for a wider appeal that would encompass South Koreas youth in a more holistic way.
  4. The group was actually meant to debut two years before their first release, but it was decided they should delay it until they were completely happy with the direction they intended to take. The line-up was eventually finalised in 2012 and full rehearsals began soon afterwards.
  5. Although the band didnt debut together until 2013, the members did feature before then on tracks by other South Korean artists including 2AM and Lee Seung-gi.
  6. A core element of the bands ethos was established almost immediately after their formation. Before even recording their first single, the boys agreed they wanted to tell stories that reflected the thoughts and issues of younger people an approach they have stuck to since those very early days.
  7. Before even the end of 2013, BTS had been recognised as a hugely promising up-and-coming group of singers, winning three Best New Artist awards.
  8. The boys first concert in the United States took place in July 2014. Things were very different to what they would become in later years, though; back then, they appeared in front of an audience of just two hundred fans, none of which had paid to see the performance.
  9. In their early years, BTS were heavily influenced by 80s and 90s hip-hop something that was reflected in their music, look, and videos. It wasnt until their third album that notable elements of melodic R&B and classic rock began to creep into their releases.
  10. Despite the success theyd go on to achieve, the bands first two albums fell off the South Korean music charts relatively quickly and werent considered major hits.
Musical Influences
  1. The members of BTS have cited Kanye West, Seo Taiji and Boys, Nas, Drake, Eminem, Queen , and Danger as musical inspirations and influences.
  2. Though often referred to simply as a K-pop group, its more accurate to describe BTS as an artist of fusion music. Much of their work emphasises hip-hop, but it also incorporates elements s diverse as R&B, rock, funk, EDM and even motown soul.
  3. Their first album was called 2 Cool 4 Skool and was released on the 12 th of June, 2013. It was the first part of their School Trilogy, essentially represented by their first three albums.
