Ben Stein doesnt think so. I TS C HRISTMASTIME . In Beverly Hills, where my wife and I live, the streets have stupendous Christmas displays of Baccarat crystals hanging above the intersections. The stores are jammed with shoppers buying jewels, furs, Bentleys, trips to Fiji for the holidays. Near Palm Springs, in Rancho Mirage, where we spend time, the stores are showing elegant champagne glasses, thick gold bracelets, alligator purses that start at $5,000. The rage there among the wealthy is to have ones own jet. In fact, youre nobody without a plane of some kind. This makes me a nobody, but the skies above Palm Springs are filled with private jets of the somebodies coming in for the holidays.
