Demons have always intrigued us, humans? Do they really exist, what are they really like, has someone already encountered them? Discover multiple cases of demonic encounters. Does true evil really walk the world? Is there really such a thing as demons? While this book makes no claim to prove their existence, it certainly contains some riveting testimony from those who claim to know the answer to both of those questions. It covers such stories as the infamous Son of Sam, the tragic case of Anneliese Michel, the terror of David Glatzel, and the bone-chilling account of Ronald Hunkeler-the real-life inspiration behind the Hollywood classic The Exorcist. These are just a few threads of the complex tapestry of demonic encounters that we have woven. You will find enough tales of demonic activity in this book to make your head spin-but dont let it spin too much, lest you draw the attention of an exorcist yourself! Haunting the Shadows

Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night from a particularly bad dream and felt yourself relieved to be in the safety of your warm, cozy, comfortable bed? Then count yourself among the luckybecause for the people presented in the following accounts of demonic encounters, there was no such solace. For these poor demon-afflicted souls, every waking hour became a source of torment of the most unimaginable kind.

Fortunately, some of the accounts that youll find within this book have relatively happy endings, with scenes of great deliverance. But others end in horrific tragedyand no, were not telling you which ones!

Nothing is more frightening than an unknown force suddenly seizing control and taking over. Many of us worry that were ruining our own lives, even without some evil entity stepping in to destroy them for us. We value our reputation and self-worth more than anything, but all sense of self and human identity is brutally submerged in true cases of demonic possession.

This should serve as a warning for the uninitiated who may be tempted to contact forces beyond human control. Because as the following chilling tales of close encounters of the demonic kind will show, the things that lurk in the shadows are best left there.

Encountering the Zozo

There has been a lot of chatter in recent years about a certain demon that manifests to those with a propensity for using Ouija boards. This entity is said to present itself in a benign and friendly manner at first but later turn malevolent. It spells its name out on the Ouija board as Zozo, and it is said that it is dangerous to even speak this name out loud for fear of inadvertently summoning it forth from the nether regions and into our reality.

This detail echoes the legend of Rumpelstiltskin, or perhaps the Tim Burton classic Beetlejuice . But where did this demon come from? Some believe that Zozo is a modification of the name Pazuzu, the demon king of Mesopotamian lore. Modern interest in this allegedly ancient demon began to pick up in 2009 when a man named Darren Evans published an account of his personal encounters with Zozo through a Ouija Board.

Darren claimed that after he opened the door to this demon, it followed him for several years and took on many shapes and forms. Soon after the books release, several others came forward to report nearly identical experiences with Zozo.

When Darren first contacted the entity, it presented itself as a friend who had his best interests at heart. Indeed, during one Ouija board session the creature even told him that it had come to take Darren and his girlfriend Jamie to paradise. Intrigued by the notion, Darren asked the demon where this paradise was locatedand was then alarmed to see the planchette (the moveable cursor of the Ouija board) move purposefully to spell out the word HELL.

At first glance, you might dismiss this as some sort of demonic sarcasm. Paradise is in hell? Yeah, right! But those who know their Bible well enough could easily come up with another interpretation. You see, according to Christian and Judaic belief, paradise is indeed located right in the middle of hell! According to the scriptures, before Christ came to the world of mortal man, there was a place in the lower parts of the Earth, alternately called Abrahams bosom or paradise, where the patriarchs of the Old Testament such as Moses, Abraham and the likeas well as their righteous followerswould go after death to gain their rest.

The New Testament tells us that this is the same place that Jesus descended to after taking all of the sins of the world upon his person and dying on the cross. Many Christians dont know this part of the Gospel, but it clearly indicates that before Christs resurrection, he went down into the depths of hell and set the captives free. According to this biblical account, Christ stormed into hell after his death on the cross, preached to those gathered there, and then led them out.

Although located in the lower parts of the Earth, the place that these Old Testament prophets were in wasnt all that bad. It was apparently a separate and protected corner of hell in which the saints could sleep until their deliverance was at hand. The Devil and his demons couldnt mess with these righteous souls. Christianity contends that once Jesus Christ absorbed all the negativity of the universe into his own person, a bridge could be made for the dead saints to leave paradise and ascend into the heavenly realm.

Was this what the demon Zozo was talking about when it seemed to claim that paradise was in hell?

Well, no matter what the demon may have been referring to in that particular Ouija board session, the place that Zozo took Darren and his family over the course of the next few weeks most certainly was not any kind of a paradise.

This was back in the early 1980s, at a time when Darren was going through some difficulties in his life and was actively seeking out the paranormal in order to find some answers. In this state of mind, he was not disposed to dismiss any random event that happened to him as mere chance; he was much more likely to ascribe it to fate. So when he just happened upon an old Ouija board lodged underneath the crawlspace of his girlfriends house, he assumed that he had discovered the long-lost occult apparatus for a reason.

But the board itself is not all that Darren found. Half submerged in the dirt, at each corner of the board, were four glass jars. Darren couldnt tell what was in the jars at first, but after holding one up to the light he was shocked to find a fully preserved dead blackbird inside. He would later surmise that the four jars of dead blackbirds had been placed at the corners of the board as a kind of sealing ritual. Perhaps someone was trying to block something from coming through the board?

If so, Darren had just unwittingly broken that seal. Pulling the board out of the ground and wiping the dust off, Darren immediately took it inside and got to work with it. He was no novice with Ouija boardshe had in fact dabbled with them off and on for several yearsso this was not new terrain to him. But what happened next most certainly was not expected. As soon as he put the planchette down on the board, it rapidly sent his hand over to Z and then over to O and then quickly back to Z and finally back to O.
