For some years now I have been looking for an author to extend the Battleground Europe series to the Battle of Loos, which commenced on 25 September 1915. Andrew Rawson has fitted the bill admirably and his two books on the battle will make the ground far more comprehensible to the battlefield visitor.
I first visited Loos some twenty years ago, clutching Rose Coombs's invaluable vade mecum
