Acknowledgements

In producing this book I have incurred personal debts to many people. I would particularly like to thank the veterans of 3NZ Division and their families who have shared their experiences, some none too pleasant. I also acknowledge the help of Archives NZ and Alexander Turnbull Library, my typist Kirsty Nolan, and Ian Watt of Exisle Publishing for his support and guidance. Above all, I would like to thank my wife Heather Newell and my son Michael for their encouragement.
