Chains such as doubt, fear, anxiety, worry and self-hatred bind us to our past and we can never go forward and become the people that God has created us to be and achieve the full potential that He has given us unless we cut these chains and let go of them. This short book is the story of how God set me free from chains of childhood hurt and pain and healed me of them.

C ONTENTS

A short story about the healing of deep rooted hurtand pain

My grandfather died in 1974 when I was 11 andhe was 54 but when Papa was alive one of the companies he ran was afoundry in the town of Airdrie, between the cities of Glasgow andEdinburgh in Scotland's Central Belt, that manufactured chains forship's anchors.

If you have ever seen an anchor chain whereeach link has a reinforcement bar across the centre to prevent itdeforming under load then you can say that you have seen a chainthat was designed by Kenneth Wright. My much-loved grandfather.

Chains play an important part in life.

An anchor uses chains to link it to the shipto hold it in place when moored. When a new ship is launched thereare braking chains attached to the hull and the slipway that allowthe ship to go so far out into the water and then stop it. And whenI had my motorbike I put a chain on each wheel that went round adownpipe on the house to prevent it being stolen.

But most of us have chains as well.

Some people are fortunate enough to bebrought up by happy loving parents in happy loving homes and enterthe world as happy, loving, emotionally and mentally stable adultswho go on to be a career success and themselves have happy lovingmarriages and happy loving families.

Many people are brought up by parents who trytheir best but with dysfunctionality running through the yearsemotional and mental baggage gets passed on from generation togeneration.

And some of us are brought up by violent andabusive parents where home is not a place of peace and safety but aplace of hurt and fear. A place where all love, self-confidence andself-esteem is physically and verbally beaten out of us and westagger into the world punch drunk and out of control and leavebehind us a trail of hurting people, failed marriages andrelationships, employment failure and chaos.

Sadly there are too few people in the firstcategory and far too many of us in the last category and many of usstumble through life with chains that are binding us to the pastand holding us back.

We take chains of emotional and mental hurtfrom our childhoods into our adulthood. Chains of pain that haveshaped our lives, our personalities and our characters and whichimpact on our relationships, marriages, children and interactionwith others.

Chains such as doubt, fear, anxiety, worryand self-hatred bind us to our past and we can never go forward andbecome the people that God has created us to be and achieve thefull potential that He has given us unless we cut these chains andlet go of them.

We cannot go forward whilst looking over ourshoulders at the past.

This short book is the story of how God setme free from chains of childhood hurt and pain during December 2014in an intensive period of deep inner healing and the things Ilearnt from it.

Perhaps you may identify with some of what Ihave written and be able to cut chains that bind you to the pastand be set free.

I hope that in all my books I am alwayshonest and open in what I write.

I'm not a Super-Christian with a super-faithI am just a very ordinary uneducated person carrying baggage frommy past who is very familiar with fear and doubt and who, like usall, is stumbling along the road our Lord has set me to walkon.

And neither am I an extrovert showman. Ratherthe opposite. I am quiet and shy, quietly spoken and I hateattention and publicity. I'm a BackroomBoy who likes to be out of sight and left to get on withthe job.

And I'm a BigSky person who is at home in the silence and the emptywilderness of the remote Scottish Highlands and Hebrides but I willgo out of my way to avoid going into cities (and using publictransport) because the noise and crowds of people frighten me.

We all have experience of preachers who liketo try and place themselves above those they preach to and give theimpression of being Super-Christians.

By not connecting with their audiences inhumility and honesty these Super-Christian preachers serve nopurpose to either God or the people they preach to and they remindme of Peacocks.

These showboating showmen and women strutaround the stage with their arms outspread speaking about theirSuper-Christian faith just as a Peacock struts around the gardensof a British stately home displaying its tail feathers.

When a Peacock displays its tail feathers itis a magnificent sight that looks very impressive and so it is withthese globe-trotting Peacock Preachers who have a huge following ofpeople all around the world that they wind up into a whoopingcheering hysteria at the meetings they lead.

As these Peacock Preachers strut aroundstages at churches in many different countries describing theirfaith it is a magnificent sight that sounds very impressive.

But just as the Peacock's display of its tailfeathers is all for show if you scratch beneath the surface of thefaith of a Peacock Preacher you will find that they too are allshow and no substance.

The thing that saddens and worries me aboutthese Peacock Preachers is that the "ChristianFaith" they preach is a superficial shallow faith andnot Christian faith at all. It is a good times loads of blessingstake take take gimme gimme gimme kind of faith. It is all froth andno substance.

Those who attend the meetings run by thesePeacock Preachers don't hear good solid biblical teaching and God'struth but rather a distorted and scripturally incorrect messagethat is all about style and not depth.

It is the deceitful untruth of the "Prosperity Gospel" .

When a new skyscraper is built the firstthing the builders do is to drive steel piles deep into the groundto give structure, strength and stability to a building that willreach high into the sky and have to endure being blasted withstorms and bad weather. The builders put down strong and sturdyfoundations.

It is only once the piles are in the grounddo the construction crews start building the skyscraper because thefoundations that will anchor it into the ground have been laid.
