FOREWORD

Last spring, I met Ana Weber and her engaging husband, Mario Haber, for brunch on a sunny day in downtown Palo Alto, California. Ana had interviewed me about my book, Branding Pays, for her blog earlier in the year. During our interview, we were delighted to find that we both had farming roots, spoke French, and shared the same optimistic view on life. When Ana and Mario had occasion to visit the Bay Area, it was natural for her to reach out to me.

Ana was ebullient, funny, and a great storyteller. I was amazed to hear how she went from being a penniless immigrant to growing business after business exponentially only to lose her fortune in a bad series of events.

Ana started over after moving to Israel from Romania as a child. When she arrived in Israel, she did not know the language and had to live in a dormitory for poor and orphaned children, because her mother lacked the money to raise her. Ana has started over so many times, including when she lost her home and savings, that she could be the poster child for resilience. After meeting Ana, I thought, If only we could bottle and share her positive energy, the world would be a better place.
