My wife, Ramona, is ever at my side as my sounding board and my inspiration. The late, great James Barber was a guiding force from the time I watched him on TV on weekday afternoons as the Urban Peasant. I learned a lot about cooking from him, and when finally I met him, he encouraged me as a food journalist and an ardent lover of the bounty of the Cowichan Valley. In that same way, Chef Bill Jones of Deerholme Farm has been here in the Cowichan to share his techniques, recipes, mushroom finds, and indulge in our mutual zeal for barbecue.
Ive also had support from some wonderful people at CBC Radio over the years during various iterations of my food programs. They include program hosts Cecilia Walters, Rick Cluff, Mark Forsythe, and Jo-Ann Roberts, and producers Cathy Simon, Phillip Ditchburn, Karin Konstantynowicz, Anne Penman, Laura Palmer, Laura Green, and Kirstie Hudson. My editor at Aqua Magazine, Gail Sjuberg, has been an active advisor on worthy food businesses on Salt Spring Island.
