DASH Diet History
The frequency of hypertension directed the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) to recommend backing for additional studies of the part of dietary patterns has on your BP.
In 1992, the NHLBI worked with several medical research centers to perform the most extensive research study to date. The DASH study used a demanding strategy called a randomized controlled trial (RCT). The process combined squads of physicians, nutritionists, nurses, statisticians, and numerous research controllers from Duke University Medical Center located in North Carolina and Johns Hopkins University nestled in Maryland.
The teams worked in a supportive undertaking in which participants were chosen to participate in the DASH research as it continued in Massachusetts at Brigham and Women's Hospital . Other locations included Pennington Biomedical Research Center nestled in Louisiana, as well as Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, Oregon.
Two DASH trials were planned and executed as a blind feeding study for the ultimate purpose of testing the effects of your diet cycles with your blood pressure. The first DASH study originated in August of 1993 and ended in July of 1997. The
research results indicated that dietary patterns with high intakes of specific minerals and fiber were linked with lowered blood pressures.

Chapter 1: The DASH Diet Journey
Before we begin, do you understand what caused hypertension?
According to the Mayo Clinic , hypertension which is also called high blood pressure is a common ailment, whereas, after long-term forced blood against the artery walls - that might in due course - result in issues including heart disease.
In November of 2017 , according to the American Heart Association (AHA), if your blood pressure levels exceed 130/80 mm of mercury (mmHg), you have hypertension. Normal pressure levels are 120/80.
One out of every 20 cases of hypertension is caused by underlying conditions or medication. For example, if you suffer from chronic kidney disease, its common to raise your pressure because your kidneys cannot filter out the fluid. This can lead to hypertension.
High Blood Pressure Symptoms
There are quite a few symptoms that suggest you have very high blood pressure. While these can also be symptoms of other things, when combined together, they paint a picture of what will give you warning signs.
- You experience chronic fatigue which can be both; mental as well as physical. It can also cause confusion for no apparent reason.
- You may have blurred vision issues.
- Your chest has a pounding feeling.
- You notice bloody urine. This is extraordinarily discomforting but is also a potential symptom.
Testing your blood pressure should ideally be done at a regular time of the day or night. It should be done when you are not feeling additional mental or physical stressors.
Types of Hypertension
When high blood pressure is begun by another disease or condition, its called primary or secondary hypertension. Fundamental issues can result from the movement of the hormones that control your blood pressure and blood plasma volume.
