About the Author
Lucia Mauro has written about the performing arts throughout Chicagoland for the past nine years. She writes weekly features and reviews for the "Diversions" section of Pioneer Press Newspapers and is a theatre and dance critic for the Chicago Sun-Times, NewCity and Sun Publications. Industry insiders will recognize her name from the in-depth stories, personality profiles and local theatre-scene analyses she writes for PerformInk, an arts and entertainment trade paper.
A lover of all forms of art, Mauro has studied classical ballet for most of her lifeeven extending her studies to Rome, Italy, where she lived for one year. She continues to travel to Italy and contributes to the arts, fashion, travel and design pages of Fra Noi, a bilingual Italian-American monthly newspaper based in Chicago. Other understandably favorite destinations include London and New York, where Mauro always manages to squeeze in as much theatre as is humanly possible. She also plays the piano and holds a bachelor's degree in English and Communication from Loyola University of Chicago.
Careers for the Stagestruck & Other Dramatic Types marks her third book for NTC Publishing Group. She penned VGM's Career Portraits: Fashion and Careers for Fashion Plates & Other Trendsetters. The author lives with her husband, Joe, in the heart of Chicago's off-Loop theatre district, where most of their evenings are spent front-row, centerjust a breath away from the footlights.

Foreword
When Lucia Mauro asked me to write the Foreword to her new book, Careers for the Stagestruck & Other Dramatic Types, I was thrilled! I said, "Yes, of course." Once I finished reading the book, I found myself a bit jealous. I wish I had had this practical book as a resource when I was a student, so I could have explored the breadth and depth of various careers in the performing arts.
My experience covers theatre. However, Ms. Mauro covers not only the world of theatre but also the worlds of music, opera, dance, theatrical design, teaching and writing in the performing arts. Her insights are informative and valuable to anyone getting ready to launch his or her career.
