The first thing to know after a diagnosis that you have diabetes Youre not - photo 3
The first thing to know after a diagnosis that you have diabetes: Youre not alone.

You have friendsthe millions of people with diabetes (PWDs) who want to take control of blood sugars and feel better every day. None of us chose to be a member of this club, including people diagnosed with the most common conditiontype 2 diabetes. My hope is that there will be cures for all types of diabetes in the foreseeable future. But until that day, lets take good care of ourselvesand each other. Start your journey by reading this book.

Diabetes What to Eat encourages the actions PWDs can take. It shares information, tips, and the little things that make each day better. Some of my favorite helpers are knowing what are the most important items on a food label, simple ways to estimate portions, and healthful and delicious recipesall of which youll find in these pages.

Diabetes lasts for a lifetime, and there is a learning curve. Im still learning every day, even after 37 years as a PWD. Seek out new information and continue to stay informed; blood glucose-managing techniques and equipment as well as nutrition guidelines change periodically. But please dont be discouraged. Lets cheer each step on the road toward improved health.

Know that whatever you choose to do today to take care of your diabetesit could be signing up for a diabetes education class, committing to a daily exercise plan, or using this book as a guideIm cheering for you. I hope youll do the same for me.
