IVE ALWAYS BEEN a connoisseur of flavorful world cuisine. And while my interest in healthy eating has changed the way my kitchen looks (ovens are so overrated), my passion for great taste has never faded.
Whats the secret to great taste? Simplicity. Just like a work of art, you need to know when to stop adding ingredients and realize a dish is done. Of course, thats not always so easy to do. Especially when you have an array of seasonal herbs and produce to choose from.
The local farmers market is my daily source for inspiration. Whatever produce is the ripest in the morning is what youll find on my table that afternoon. It has to be organic and it has to be fresh. If you havent been to a farmers market before, try visiting one before planning your next menu. Youll find theyre full of fresh ideas.
In a way, you could say this book is like a farmers market in itself. Just take a leisurely stroll through the pages. MY PATH TO LIVE FOODS
Ive come full circle, back to the way I was raised. I remember tending to my familys organic garden as a child, and watching my dad bite into a red pepper like it was an apple. I thought this was so unsophisticated, something carried over from the old country.
Once again, Im fueling myself with fresh, organic, uncooked whole fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, nuts, and seeds. This time Im on a mission to show everyone that nutritious is delicious. The old days of unappealing health foods like mud-sludge vegetable juices to be gulped down while plugging my nose have now evolved into delicious and artful cuisine. The recipes in this book need no excuses to be eaten, but are instead enjoyed as simply yummy food. Its all about the flavor and feeling great.
Ive spent many years searching out what foods maintain a high degree of health but still mesh well with my urban lifestyle. Traveling the world, Ive discovered that its obvious humans can live eating almost anything. I believe eating living foods is the optimal way to fuel our bodies, connect with our food source to ensure its high quality, and enjoy every last bite.
