I dedicate this book to youbecause you deserve it.
I have a confession. And Im probably the last person you expect to admit this, but it needs to be said before you read anything else in this book: exercise and diet are not what they appear to be. In fact, Id argue that most exercise and diet programs are mostly unhealthy.
Not what you were expecting, huh? Before you think Ive lost my mind, Im not saying exercise itself is harmful or that most diets will make you sick. The pertinent issue, as I see it, is how you implement these weight-loss programs into your life.
If you dont understand why you eat well (or not well)and how the answers can be different every daythen you are setting yourself up for failure. This is what happens with almost every diet plan. One failure leads to another, and then the next thing you know, you believe that you cant change your body or your life. This is the vicious cycle that leads to weight gain, a lack of courage and confidence, and never-ending frustration.
But I can simplify the process, removing the downfalls of other diets, and put you in control of your body. How? By pointing out the one issue that every diet plan consistently refuses to address: you.
The problem with most diet books is that they dont acknowledge, recognize, or give power to how all of us are beautifully different and complex. Your individuality should be celebrated as a competitive advantage. And thats exactly what Im going to show you how to do. Instead of feeling bad about your past obstacles and defeats when it comes to losing weight, I will show you how to elevate your unique qualities as strengthshow to use them in order to achieve success.
So before you start one more program destined to fail, its time to reveal how diet and fitness really work. Just think about it for a moment. Strip away the 101 superfoods, the latest trends, and even your pretenses surrounding any gym environment and think about how you, or I, or anyone else functions on a daily basis.
We all have good and bad days. Are the reasons you eat healthy on the good days going to be the same as what knocks you off track (or keeps you on track) on the bad ones? What about the willpower it takes to avoid every dessert in your pantry on those tough days? Or the strength it takes not to let the defeating conversation in your head win? We know that these difficult situations pose different problems. And how we approach them is often different and based on our personality traits. Yet these are the aspects of health and weight loss that we never discuss.
How can you build a plan for your life when youre not considering your life? You need to examine how your personalitythe unique characteristics and DNA that make you youare the most important part of the journey of losing weight and living the life you want.
Thats why I wrote this book. Im tired of seeing failure. My work with clients has proven to me that the answer isnt just in the foods you eat or the workout you chooseits in you. In the uniqueness that makes you you: your personality. Diet Right for Your Personality Type is a breakdown of five core personality types that Ive discovered in my time helping to transform thousands of lives. These personalities are as follows:
The critical-thinking Organized Doer
The outgoing Swinger
The free-spirited Rebel
The selfless Everyday Hero
The strong-minded Never-Ever
They are based on the five dominant personalities Ive seen in more than a decade of working with my clientsthe specific characteristics that can be strengths (or weaknesses) when it comes to succeeding on your weight-loss plan. And my four-week program is designed to work with each personality type to capitalize on its core characteristics and give you every advantage when it comes to losing the weight once and for all.
But this program is much more than just self-identification. Its about finally understanding why one-size-fits-all solutions have never worked for you in the past, and how you can use your own personality traits to thrive on the perfect plan, a plan created just for your type.
Each person needs an individualized program of diet and exerciseone that honors the individual and his or her personalityto inspire success. A diet has to be geared toward your personality to really work for you. Im sure youve seen this in your own life: what worked for your best friend or someone in your family didnt work for you. Personality traits must be taken into account for anyone to succeed on a diet and ultimately keep weight off.
W hat is personality, anyway?
I think of personality like a puzzle. You are made up of hundreds of different pieces that make up you as a whole. Each puzzle piece is a distinctive and enduring aspect of your personalitywhat motivates you, the way you think and act, and typical patterns of behavior youve had most of your life. Many of those pieces apply to your actions and reactions, to how you eat, how you diet, and even how you approach exercise.
