Foreword

The Biggest Loser changed my life.

When I first heard that NBC was thinking about doing a weight-loss reality show, I was naturally skeptical. I had seen all these other makeover shows on television that involved surgery and other extreme methods to get results, and I knew I would never morally be able to contribute my efforts to weight loss under those terms. So I went into the first meeting with my boundaries firmly in place.

Happily, I found out that The Biggest Loser was going to be a weight-loss show using the two best tools of all: diet and exercise. Let me tell you, my boundary walls came crashing down. I knew right then and there that I wanted to be one of the trainers for the show.

Then, when I first saw the contestants walking down the stairs of the ranch, my initial thought was, Wow! Ive really got my work cut out for me. I have lived in Los Angeles for more than 10 years, and I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the biggest names in this town. All of a sudden I felt like I was back to square one. What did I know? What can I teach them? Can I do this?

Well, I didor rather they did.

If youve watched the show, you know that it involves ordinary people who need to lose a lot of weight and get control of their lives by changing their lifestyles. If youve watched the show, you know that these people lost hundreds and hundreds of pounds of weight and to this day are losing even more and keeping it off. If youve watched the show, you were naturally inspired, as I was, by seeing what these 26 people were able to do.

The book you are holding in your hands is their storyhow they lost weight, how they exercised, how they changed small daily habits, and how they altered their lifestyles to become new people, inside and out. As you read their personal stories, you will be inspired by the process they lived, moved by the determination they showed, and empowered by their newfound belief in themselves. You will see yourself in these people; you will see your best friend, husband, wife, brother, sister, boyfriend, or girlfriend, and you will relate to their struggles and be inspired by their success.

This book is unlike any other diet book youll ever read. Its power is that it is not a program from a diet or fitness guru; it is the collective voice of people just like you, along with me as one of their trainers, who now know from their hearts what it takes to win the weight-loss game once and for all. Youll learn their secrets about how to eat, how to exercise, how to stay the course, and how to be a biggest loser yourself, without resorting to crazy diets that involve suffering and sacrifice.

Im personally thrilled to see this book in print. If the moment of truth has come for you, that youve got to take charge of your weight once and for all, you have made the best purchase of your life. Who better to guide you to a trimmer, healthier body than these 26 people, who have been so successful at what so few can seem to accomplish over the long term?

These people have shown me how important it is to stay on track. They have shown me that every single day matters. Most important, they have shown me that I have to live every day to its fullest and take everything I can out of a day because thats what theyve been doing every single day.

Let me close by saying that for me this experienceworking on the show and with this bookhas been like no other that Ive ever had. It has reignited the passion for what I do. I cant wait to get to work and share that passion. I wake up every day with a renewed purpose and a renewed focus in life. I love my job more than ever, and I owe it to my new best friends, the cast members of
